Gordon Nursing Program Spring 2011

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello everyone!

I am applying to Gordon College's nursing program for the spring. I was accepted to the program for the fall semester but had to decline because I did not think that I could finish my A&P2 and micro classes this summer. My gpa dropped a little since I was accepted and I was wondering if any previously accepted students could help me determine my chances for getting in for the spring. I am taking A&P2 and microbiology this fall to satisfy the rest of my core. My gpa is a 3.26 and I got an 83.5 on my TEAS. Do you think that those scores will be good enough? When I got in for fall I had a 3.36 gpa and the same score on my TEAS, so theyre not that much different. This is the only program that I am applying for so I'm just hoping that I get in. If anyone can help me figure out my chances, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks :)

Can't really respond on the chances of getting accepted because I'm in the same boat. I just took the Teas IV at Gordon today and scored 78.2% which I had thought was pretty good until I read a few posts this evening:smokin:. I also finished all the prereqs with a 3.22, not shabby but not a 4.0 so I know what you mean. I also heard they don't accept many transfer students-which I am. Are you currently enrolled there or have you taken any classes there previously? Let's stay in touch and optimistic together. Let's think happy thoughts:nurse:.

I've been there for 2 years but it sounds like your stats are close to mine except being a transfer student. I'd definitely like to stay in touch. Thats kinda why I posted this on here. I really hope we both get in. It just sucks having to wait so long to find out!

@cnhanley have you heard that its hard to get accepted as a transfer student?

I've heard from a few posts on here. I'm not sure how true it is.

What is the average GPA and TEA's test scores for getting into the program ? Does anyone with under a 3.0 GPA have a chance ???

I personally know someone that had a 2.8 gpa and mid 70's teas score got into the program, but that was back in 2009. I was concern with the teas and not the gpa because mine is a 3.85, but when I scheduled for the teas July 2010 testing a lady had commented on my grades and stated teas scores of 70's are good even though students think othewise. This came from the lady in Smith hall---1st office located on the right hand side coming in from the front of Smith bldg. After taking the teas I scored a darn 70.6, so I worried about admission too. Good luck and don't give up/in!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Thanks Dennur :) ,sounds like you have a great chance of getting in . If I don't get into the program for spring I will apply for next fall. Do you know the application deadline for fall 2011 ? I'm also wondering if I should take the TEAS test again , I made a 72.

Dixie, the spring deadline was July 30th. I know someone this year, who has been at Gordon for about a year and a half with a 2.7 GPA, and a 72 on the TEAS. They were accepted into the program for this fall. So I know for a fact that people with under a 3.0 get in... The only thing that concerns me is that I have two dropped classes on my transcript, one of them at Gordon. Does anyone know if this hurts my chances of getting in, because I know they use a point system?

Since they are on a point system you can use points from a stronger area to make up for your weak areas. Like if you have a high gpa with a low teas score, then your gpa can account for the low teas score. It depends on other things as well like completion of your core, health care experience etc.

I don't know the deadline for fall 2011 admission. Being you've taken the teas ask them how soon you can take it again at Gordon. When I took it in July 2010--I had asked if I could retake it later that same month, they said no and I could take it elsewhere and have the scored submitted to them. Keep in mind if you retake the teas you would have to submit your package around the time you took the teas again. Call Smith Hall and/or you nursing advisor,or just stop by Smith and ask:nurse:.

I applied for Spring 2011- but here is the question of the day. If I transfer out of Gordon to Clayton State, Emory, Ga. State......I would have to take about 3 classes before attempting that school's nursing program. However, I would have to retake the teas because Gordon version is 4, and those above requires version 5. What if retaking the teas I don't score as high as I did on the teas 4. I've been told to compete w/other applicants it was best to score in the 80's. My gpa is 3.85-science gpa 4.0-teas 4 70.6. So I plan on taking the teas 5 @ Ga. Baptist next month just to see how well I do. If not I hope Gordon accepts me. I know they have a BSN program and I am taking a few class fall 2010 towards that degree. Of coorifice, you must complete nursing school with the ASN before applying the school's BSN program and obtain state licensure. During the summer in Chem 2 a woman was doing that and she only had to attend Gordon once a week for the BSN program. She stated once she finished those required classes it was just a change in ASN-BSN and there is no further state board exam/retake of NCLEX. My situation is I don't want to jeopardize Gordon if I should get in and wait on schools that I may not get in. Sure I may be able to transfer elsewhere, but I would need 3 classes for all other schools. I can't take those classes if Gordon starts in the Spring. So I may be stuck with Gordon, if so I'll be happy to get in someone. Any thoughts and similiar issues with anyone that can some light?????????????
