Georgia Nursing Students Applying for Fall 2014

U.S.A. Georgia

SO...

I have my options open as far as which school I want to go to for my BSN. I am currently at KSU, and it is great here! I want to stay, but it is SO competitive. I am also going to apply to:

1. Mercer

2. Georgia Southern

3. Armstrong

Is anyone here also applying for these schools? Have you previously applied to these schools, and got in? I have no idea where I stand, even for Kennesaw. I just emailed my advisor.. so hopefully she can shed some light for me.

Like everyone, I am nervous about getting accepted. I took my first TEAS today and my adjusted score was 81.3%:woot:. I was surprised considering I didn't study very much.

So basically, I just want to know where I stand for these schoools!

Omg, finally. Someone applying to my school. Lol. I'm a current student at Georgia Southern (I love it!) and I'm applying for Fall 2014 as well. It's really competitive. That's the only school I'm applying to so hopefully I'll have some luck. Have you taken the HESI? Or does GSU accept the TEAS as well? I think that's the only school up there that requires the HESI instead of the TEAS.

YES! I am SO excited you are from Southern! I haven't talked to anyone that GOES there. I am accepted into Southern as of last week, so that's good. GA Southern wants nothing to do with my TEAS score lol. I am taking my Hesi on Dec 30th. I have a lot of questions..

Have you taken your Hesi yet? What are the most common scores/GPAs accepted there? And can you explain the whole "rural" nursing that is talked about on the website? Do they want applicants to want to work in rural areas after graduation? I saw that they give you the option to tell them where you wish to live/work after graduation.. rural vs urban.

Also - I love how Southern requires an essay. I feel like that gives you such an opportunity to stand out. KSU doesn't do essays, and they don't do interviews anymore. It's all what you look like on paper.... my advisor even told me I should aim for a few more points!! So I am going to try to get an 85 or better on my next TEAS.

Yes, I have taken the HESI. I took it back in July since we have to wait 6 months to retest. I made a 95. For some reason, I wanted to take it again to see if I can get 100, crazy I know. But the higher my score the greater my chance is to be accepted. Since it is the only school I'm applying to I figured it wouldn't hurt.

Last time I went to talk to my advisor, she said the avg GPA accepted for the class that just started this past August I think was a little over 3.8. The semester before that I think it was 3.7ish.

As far as the whole rural nursing thing, I'm not exactly sure what they mean. I actually plan on posting on here about it to see if someone could shed some light on me as far as that goes. I will also be doing other research to get more info on it. I think they're basically asking your opinion of rural nursing. Yes, I saw that they ask you where you wish to live/work after graduation, but I don't think that will affect anything. People will work/live wherever they can get hired which may or may not be a rural area.

I love that they require an essay as well, the only thing I wish they would do is require letters of recommendation. I spent this semester volunteering and could have had a couple of great people that would have been more than willing to write me a letter!

Great scores!!! Congrats!! I know what you mean about the higher scores.. anything can help! I didn't know about the Hesi until a few months ago, so I only have ONE chance to rock it. Did you use a study guide? If so, which one?

I hope my GPA is good enough... I don't really know how they calculate it as a transfer. GA Southern says my transfer GPA is a 3.48. I feel like that is lower than my actual GPA. I haven't sent my most recent transcript for Fall 2013 classes though. I got all A's this semester for AP1 and Chem1152, so that will bump me up a LITTLE bit... but still.. I need a 96 or better! recommendation letters would be great too!

Stressful times haha...

I am applying to Mercer for the Fall. I fell in love with it after going to an open house. Everyone there is so wonderful and really gave me a sense of a close knit environment.

I haven't been on campus yet, but I hear it's great! If you don't mind me asking: what is the TEAS score you are submitting, and your GPA?

Thanks! This is the study guide I used. It was very, very similar to the test.

I have no idea how to calculate a transfer GPA. lol. It seems that you did well on your sciences so that bump should help you out alot actually. I got an A in Chem 1152 and AP1 as well. I haven't got final grades as of yet, but I think I will be finishing will all A's, one B. Once these grades are added onto my transcript it will give me a little tiny bump to my GPA. After transcripts update I will be applying. If I do decide to retake the HESI I will have to wait til January 31 to apply. Just try to do your best on the HESI. It's really not that hard. I'm sure you will at least score in the 90 or above range if you use that book.

Thanks so much! I am trying to post at least 15 posts, so I can activate my private messages. If that ever happens, I hope we can keep in touch through the application process. Who knows, maybe we will be classmates soon! lol.

My teas isn't amazing, 82. I thought about retaking it but decided not to after speaking with admissions at Georgia baptist (Mercer). My science GPA is 4.0. Overall is around 3.7.

That is great!! I think your stats look pretty dang competitive! I wish you luck anyway though ;)! My science GPA is a 4.0 currently, but I still need to take Microbiology and A&P2. So I will take those this Spring, and hopefully keep the 4.0. Did your admissions advisor tell you if it looks bad for have 2 attempts? Even if the second one improves?
