Applying for Georgia Perimeter for Fall '13 ADN program. Have questions: TEAS, Cores

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I'm applying for the Georgia Perimeter College ADN program for Fall 2013 in January. I've completed core classes at another college but there is NO way that GPC will accept them, (the college is a technical college, and I'm not interested anymore in getting my LPN, I was accepted into the program, but decided it would be a waste of time since the length of the program is similar) and since they will not acccept them, I will have to start all over. I'm starting at GPC Oct 15th for fall b term. I'm going to be taking Anatomy 1 and lab 1, American Government, and Quantitative Skills and Reasoning. I'm very devoted and I will NOT settle for anything less than an A out of all the classes. The only requirements that you have to meet to submit the nursing application in January is to have Anatomy 1 and lab 1 completed and to have atleast a 63 on the TEAS exam. I know everyone say's it'll be easier to complete all the core classes before applying to the nursing program, but I REALLY want to go ahead and start the program in fall of 2013. Hopefully, by the time Fall semester start,I'll have majority of them completed, if not all of them. Being that I will only have 3 of the 12 pre reqs completed at the time of the application, will I have a hard chance at getting accepted even with a 4.0 in those classes?

Also, How was the TEAS V exam? What scores did you make to get into the program?? What part of the test was most imporant to GPC?? Which study guide did you use??

If anyone can answer any of these questions for me, PLEASE PLEASE don't hesitate to reply!!!!!

Hey. Quick question for anyone that maybe can answer. I had a&p 1 and 2 transferred in to GPC from 2004. Got B's. I know they said that if u try to take a course over it would be averaged. Does this apply to these courses that are outdated and we are forced to do over? Didnt even occur to me until today. Kinda bummed if so :(

I went to the informational session last year ans asked the same question. They told me it wouldn't apply to classes that we have to take over due to time restrictions.

Thanks SOOOO much for sharing. You just made my night! :-D. I'm such a nerd lol I mean it would make sense for it not to be averaged but u never know.

I am applying for the Fall 2013 program (transferred in and waiting for transcripts to post to GPC) and I am a little worried! Re-took TEAS V and only scored a 68 (last score was a 64) :banghead: and I studied that book front to back! I am done with all of my core classes, except History which I am taking now. Can anyone fill me in on the info session? Like I said, I have taken a&p (C in lecture/B in lab), a&p2 (B in lecture/A in lab), and micro (A in both lecture/lab) already so if I don't get in Fall semester I'm just sitting out till Spring with the hopes to get in then! I just wanted to ease my mind about GPC's acceptance standards with a TEAS score barely making the mark. I'm TERRIBLE at timed test please don't judge my score :bag: THANKS!

I was accepted with a 67.3% on the Teas test and a 3.76 GPA. GPC focuses more on the GPA, just be sure to score profiecent on the test and you will be fine. I just graduated December 14th and was a RN Janurary 4th. You can do it! ;)

I'm hoping they don't only focus on gpa :( My GPA is only around a 3.2 but my teas score was a 79.3 and a 90 on both reading and math. I'm so nervous my grades aren't good enough, the wait is killing me! Did you know anyone in your nursing class that had a similar situation as me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! good luck to all of you applying this year!

I think you have good chance of getting in.

keepmovinglpn congratulations on graduating! That is awesome! Can you give us an idea of what the schedule is like at GPC? I've read that you have clinicals twice a week, every other week but do these last the entire semester? Also, how many days per week do you have lecture? I'm trying to get some idea of what I'm going to do for childcare IF I get in! Congrats again:)

Well my schedule was some what different bc I was in the bridge the 1st semester and then the LPN's merged with traditional the 2nd semester.

* 1st semester (LPN bridge) one day a week class 9-4pm and one day a wk clinical. **note this doesnt include the sim lab days or check off days**

* 2nd semester (summer) merged with the selected few traditional track students and HAD to take: OB, PEDS and PSYCH all in the summer. Between clinicals, class time and school work you are there Mon-friday 9-3pm. **note if you choose to enter the lottery to do the accerated track with the LPN's you will not be able to work during the summer FACT**

* 3rd semester (my last semester) was alot better, much more laid back. Class every other week and one day a week clinicals (I did mine on Sundays) and then you have perceptorship.

Hope this gives you some idea.

To all of you applying to GPC's nursing program:

It is a very hard program but you will learn everything you need to pass the NCLEX-RN. You will more than likely become annoyed with all the last min stuff the teachers love to spring on you but what can you do. GPC's nursing program will prepare you well for the NCLEX this is a fact. They have like a 99% pass rate, this much I know is true;). The vast majority of my class have been passing the NCLEX with it stopping at 75Q and thats with little to no studying. Mine stopped at 95Q's with maybe 2 days of reviewing (nothing major at all), that's it.

I wish you all the best of luck with getting accepted bc GPC has a great nursing program:yes:

Thank you so much for the encouragement! The waiting is so nerve wrecking and having pass students calm some of those nerves is such a blessing. Good luck to everyone else applying for Fall semester with me too. Technically we are all competing for these limited spots, but I personally feel as if I am only in competition with myself not you all and loving the comradary for any info so again GOOD LUCK AGAIN EVERYONE!!!

Thanks for all the info keepmovinglpn! I had actually considered trying to do the summer semester to graduate faster but I think if I get in, I may just try to get a job at a hospital over the summer! Thanks again!

Thank you SO much for the encouragement and positive feedback. I also have a friend that graduated from GPC and felt fully prepared when she graduated and is now a practicing RN in the ER. I have a few back ups but truthfully GPC is my number one pick based on quality and affordability. I will go for my bachelors online once I'm an RN. At this point I'm looking for the quickest and best choice and GPC fits the bill and happens to be 15 minutes from home. Can't beat that ? CONGRATS on passing the NCLEX. All your hard work has paid off. You must be so happy with yourself!
