Any Augusta Tech ADN Hopefuls?!?!

U.S.A. Georgia

Hi Everyone!!! :D

I am anxiously waiting to hear if I have been accepted into the 1st Augusta Tech ADN class starting this fall. I know there are many people who applied, but I personally don't know anyone. Is there anyone else out there waiting for "THE LETTER" . It just seems like such a long time before we find out (end of July) and the program starts the last week of August. It feels like my life is in limbo until I find out, not to mention it is the only school I applied for (I should have listened to the old saying to never put all your eggs in one basket). So is there anyone else out there? I would love to hear about what other schools you applied to or information you know about the program.

(This is my first post on ALLNURSES.COM)

Hi Treetop,

I finished the LPN program at Augusta Tech last year. I am planning on starting the pre-reqs next month so that I can go into an ADN program in the future. I am not sure if I am going to try and enter the one at Augusta Tech at a future date or go elsewhere. Augusta Tech currently doesn't have a LPN-RN bridge program and they told me they weren't sure when they would have one. I know a lot of the folks are planning on going to Aiken Tech since they do have a bridge.

I was told ATC received literally thousands of applications for this first ADN program! Hopefully you will make it in. Do you have a pretty high GPA?

Good luck to you! Oh and also a bit of advice.... don't wait on a "letter"... check with them if you don't hear anything... I speak from personal experience. I never received a letter and I HAD been accepted. If I hadn't checked.. I wouldn't have known lol.

Have a great day!

Hi Pegasus65,

Sorry it took awhile for me to reply. I also heard that ATC received MANY applications for the program. Yes I do have a pretty high GPA, I have all A's in the 6 classes they look at when considering admissions. I also scored well on the PAX RN exam so I have my fingers crossed that I get in!!!! I also looked at the Aiken Tech program, but the advisor said that my science classes that I took at ATC would not transfer and I did not want to retake them. Thanks for the advice about not waiting on the letter. My excitement is so high right now that if I don't hear from them by the end of July I will definitely contact them.

How was the LPN program? How hard was it? What advice could you give me about the way ATC run their nursing programs.

Thanks for posting. Although I wasn't able to apply for Fall 2010 I will definately be in the running for the 2011 class. Sounds like with your GPA you won't have any trouble. Please keep us posted on the first class to go through. I am especially interested in knowing how many men you have in your class, I know there are at least three of us hoping for 2011.

Treetop,

I won't lie to you.. the LPN program was obviously pretty tough for many since we started out with 22 in my class and only graduated 9. This doesn't count the 3 students we had come in from other campuses that didn't make it either. ATI testing seemed to be the deciding factor in most of the cases.

I think I need to do some checking into the science classes if that is the case with them not transferring. It was my understanding that the A&P 1 and 2 were equivalent and that the only one that would probably not transfer was the Microbiology class. I really didn't want to have to start all over again, I would prefer to do a bridge program where I can at least get credit for already having my LPN license.

Frankly if I had it to do all over again I would have waited for an ADN program, as I am finding it difficult to find employment unless you want to work in LTC. I have no problem with the elderly population... it is the dishonest practices and unrealistic expectations I have found in LTC that I cannot tolerate. You are either expected to sign for stuff that you didn't do and the residents don't receive the care they deserve or else the workload, which is expected, is nigh unto impossible to complete without needing some medication yourself lol!

I don't know much about the instructors that are teaching the ADN program. I had some good instructors in the LPN program and some that were not so good. Thankfully I made it through. I also went into the program with a 4.0 average and I finished with a high B average.

Hopefully you will hear from them soon!

Have a great day!

Yes, Aiken Tech told me that since all of ATC science courses are 5 Qtr hrs they cannot accept them (something about different state regulations). They need to be at least 6 Qtr hrs or 4 Sem hrs. I know that it's hard in general to find a good job as a new nurse, so just hang in there. I too have a 4.0 GPA for my ATC credits. I already have a Bachelors degree and decided to go back for nursing.

I cannot believe that out of 22 people only 9 made it to graduation. I know that if I get in I need to make sure that I'm mentally prepared. I'm really curious to find out if the ADN program will use the ATI testing. What campus did you attend for the LPN program?

bigrigcowboy,

If I get accepted into the program I will definitely keep you posted. I'm also curious to find out the female to male ratio. I'm hoping for at least have 6 males.

Have you talk to any of the advisors for the program lately? I was informed that the prerequisites for the program will for next year and that application deadline will be sooner than this year's program. The next ADN information session is August 3rd at 6pm, so make sure you attend. I will be there too if I don't get accepted.

Hey,

I went to the Augusta Campus.... and not kidding you.... that is all that made it out of my class! I think a lot of them didn't take it seriously though. I am older and didn't waste my time. I studied. I also didn't work while in school .... well I take that back.. I continued transcribing for a while.. but it was at home so not as difficult as out of the house.

Gosh I can't believe those classes won't transfer.... They will transfer to Augusta State... I know this because I pulled the equivalents off the ASU website. Hmmm I might best check into this some more before I get in too deep. I am just about to start one of the Englishs and also a remedial for Algebra because I bombed that test. I know I would... it has been 30 years since I had Algebra. I did well in the Pharmacology in the LPN program though and managed to make an A in that class. See.... I didn't take the harder core classes for the LPN program.... that is another thing you have to watch with ATC... they just basically want to get you into the programs. Now I am going to have to repeat my English classes and also the A&P 1 and 2. Science classes don't bother me though... they are something I can learn without too much difficulty. I have more trouble with math.

I don't know if they will be utilizing the ATI's for the ADN program or not. Let me know what you find out. It is also my understanding that ATC will be going to semesters soon, but I am not sure.

I know that MCG will also take ATC credits too. You need to definitely talk to an advisor at Aiken Tech to make sure, because that's what one of them told me it and that was only about 6 months ago.

ATC will start semester system in the summer of 2011. But, the upcoming ADN program will start the semester system this year to avoid the transition in the middle of the program. That's why the program starts Aug 23rd instead of September.

I am very serious when it comes to my school work so hopefully that will be enough. What places did you have clinicals at?

Treetop,

We did clinicals at both VA's.. uptown and downtown, MCG (several floors), Georgia War (and other nursing homes), one of the Headstart programs, and Friendship community center. We would have also used University, but frankly there wasn't enough of us left at the end of the program to require that lol.

The fact that you are as young as you are and have such a great GPA speaks volumes. I think you will be fine in the program. :) I did email one of the instructors of the ADN program a few weeks ago to find out how long it would take to complete it if I just went to ATC instead of going to Aiken. She told me two semesters after all pre-reqs were completed. This might be the best way for me to go even though I was hoping to get some type of a bridge. I do know that Aiken would require me to get a SC nursing license before I could do THEIR bridge....(or at least that is what I was told by one of my classmates recently).

I had even thought about just going to ASU, but they only have the BSN program now... however, they do have a bridge program. I would be satisfied to just get the RN for now. I believe that would open many more doors for employment.

Hi Treetop,

Yes I too have applied to the ADN program at Augusta Tech. I took the Pax-RN Exam there and I am also waiting to hear something back from the school. My GPA was very high and I also scored very well on the entrance exam. Everybody says how hard the nursing program is, and I don't doubt that one bit. However I do feel like the hardest part for students trying to get in at ATC is the competitive part. I mean being in competition with all the other applicants who you know absolutely nothing about, all trying to get into the same program ,which only has a limited number of slots. I did not apply to any other colleges. I did the same as you, I put all my egs in one basket as well. I did look at Aiken Tech's program, and just like the other posts commented, they don't accept the sciences as a tranfer. Ialso looked at Piedmont Technical in Greenwood,SC. Just really didn't want to take that drive. Well hopefully we will hear something at least by mid July. Afterall, for those who do get accepeted they still have other criteria to meet, such as all the necessary shots and screenings and background checks to complete.Good luck!!

parrothead36,

I understand how you feel. I heard that their was hundreds of applications for the ADN program, that's ALOT of competition. I don't think we'll hear anything back until the end of July though. I'm so nervous!! Good luck to you too, I hope we both get in.
