Whistle Blowing: Just or Worthy of Mistrust?

Nursing Students General Students

As I sat in my professor's office today reviewing our last exam I looked over at the young lady next to me. I asked her for the one of the answer keys so that I could check the right answers for the questions that I got wrong. She said to wait because, get this, she was using not one but BOTH of the answer keys that we were sharing to hide her phone as she took pictures of the exam. I,along with the other students in that time slot, had brought along an index card to write down the general topics of the questions that we had gone wrong on and were notified that this wasn't allowed which is fine. What isn't fine is someone taking actual photos of the exam-its dishonest and unfair to everyone else. As soon as she left the room I alerted the group and by default the professor who left to track her down. When the professor stepped out the other young lady at the table asked me why I had mentioned it in front of the professor which really shocked me. Do you see something like this as a reasonable and fair or something I should have kept a secret? Why wouldn't I say something?

Yeah that's wrong & the professor should know. I can't believe the other student(s) weren't willing to tell the professor. I think that's just as scary because that says they think what she was doing is ok. *shake my head* People are really terrible.

Definitely something the professor should know about.

Maybe let the professor know in confidence is what your group meant?

. Me? I would have said something in front of her like, 'I know you are intent over there creating a photo documentary of the exam and answers but the rest of us need the key to review the exam".

It's also cheating and I have yet to hear of a school that doesn't have explicit language about how taking pictures etc of exams is forbidden.

It is mentioned in our handbook and our professor has said it numerous times. I am just really over all the cheating I've witnessed over the years and I don't think it should be tolerated at this point in the game. You cheated your way into nursing school and you're going to cheat your way through? Come on!
