Where did my Motivation go?

Hello All,

I'm looking for some advice to help me become motivated again. I'm currently in an accelerated BSN program and have been there almost a year and a half. I have exactly three semesters left, which is one year to be exact. Since it's accelerated, each class is basically two months long (instead of the typical four months long). I'm just past my "halfway" point, finishing up with Pediatrics and about to get into Mental Health. I really enjoyed Obstetrics and Peds, and also am looking forward to Mental Health. On the other hand, I am just ready to graduate already and just feel like I'm just pulling through at this point (even though I'm still getting really good grades, so this lack of motivation hasn't affected that part). I just feel burned out at this point , but I also tell myself that I only have three semesters left (which sounds and feels better than "1 year").

What have you all done to strike up your motivation when you get to this "burn-out" stage of nursing school? Any advice you can hand over to me? I'm determined to finish nursing school with honors (as I plan to continue my education for my Master's), but just need a little "push".

Thanks in advance!

Keep your eye on the goal. Get outside and smell the fresh air. Let your first action on waking up be to smile. Don't burn out, invite family and friends and have a cook out! Then get your A** back to your desk and your shoulder to the wheel and finish the job!

You've been there a year and a half and you have three more semesters to go? What the heck kind of accelerated program is that? No wonder you're disinterested now.

I just started a BSN program, which is only four semesters in total, and I'm already apathetic, lol. Of course, many of us already have degrees so that's why it's short. I guess for the kids in there it would end up taking them four years or something counting earlier prereq junk. I miss going to work everyday. I had a state job with regular annual leave I also had holiday leave, plus there were retirement contributions and good, cheap health insurance. I miss

Yeah, I'm a little confused, too. How is an accelerated BSN program 2 1/2 years long? I'm in an accelerated BSN program that's 12 months long. Granted it's a second degree program, so I'm only taking nursing classes since I already have all my gen ed credits done....

Well, I guess you have to keep your eye on the prize. Obviously you want to be a nurse, since you're in NS. Focus on that. Also, don't think too far in advance. I freak out if I think beyond next week! Just think about each week as it comes and plug away at those classes. It'll be over before you know it.

I noticed that same thing but the next quarter went by so easily. It ended up being the easiest semester for me even though the topic wasn't my cup of tea. I am finding the final semester difficult; my motivation is gone and my mind has already graduated except I still have tests to take.

i think the accelerated part of this is that it IS 2 1/2 years long. its probably this person's first degree (i'm guessing) which would mean that usually a BSN would be 4 years long. im just guessing lol anyway, i feel the same way, my motivation is really fading. im excited to graduated and obviously i want/need to. but i feel apathetic at this point. not everything excites me the way it did my first & even 2nd semester. im just ready to be done. i used to love going to class (crazy, i know lol), but now i just try to survive. i just keep thinking short term goals, like if i just get through today, then i can sleep in tomorrow, or if i just get through this week, i have the weekend. that keeps me going.
