What's your school's policy for registering for nursing courses?

Tonite's a night I've been working toward and could think of little else for the last year. I'll be online, on the computer, registering for my first nursing courses at the stroke of midnight. Champagne anyone?

But the fly in the ointment is that all we're doing is generating a schedule. In essence, we're registering blind. We are going to be assigned our clinical's geographically. We don't have any info about our clinical instructors. We are supposed to have the same skills lab instructor we have for clinical. The only courses I know the place and time will be pharmacology.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a smooth transition, a decent schedule and a good instructor. Anyone else's school do it this way? I believe this is the first semester our school has done it this way. It's kind of like you'd better be VERY flexible. We may not know our actual schedules till orientation... day one of classes.

OUr clincals are done that way too. Sometimes they will give us a heads up on all the possible sites and times for clinicals but we may not know what group until the first day of class. Being flexible is the key. Good Luck and congrats on getting in! I was fortunate and got in the first semester I applied so until I found this board I didn't know people were waiting for years to get in!

Good Luck!:D :D :D

RNkittykat,

I'm doing the exact thing as you are. Do you have early classes tomorrow? I have to be at my clinical 8am sharp, Yuck! I just hope I'm able to register by 12:30, I don't want to be up all night! I also wish we didn't have to wait so long to find out where we are placed. I'm pretty sure I'll be at bethesda, where do you think you'll be placed?

Our scheduling is done a little differently, thank goodness! We register for a specific day and time for clinicals, but do not know the location or (sometimes) the instructor until the semester begins. It would be impossible at our school for students not to be able to register for particular days and times, as there are other non-nursing courses that many of us need to register for.

Being a mother of three, I'm not sure how the heck I would get by if I did not know what my schedule would be until the last minute.

Good luck with your first semester!!!!

Hi Busybeaver. I'm in southeast Boca. Very east on the beach. Thinking I'll wind up at either West Boca or Bethesda.

This is the first time I'll be registering for limited access. 12:30 would be a treat. Usually I'm up till 2am getting the job done. It still beats waiting in that humungous line outside the admissions office.

I'm going to get some sleep now. Just a couple hours. I have a feeling I'm going to be up quite late and I have to leave home early in the am too. Good luck with the Pantherweb tonite. May it let us in and out quickly.

I stayed up until the stroke of midnight to register last Sunday night only to find my school's computer system down until 8 am. Needless to say, there were a lot of irritable nursing students. :D

We choose the clinical day & time, but have no idea what hospital we'll be at. We know the general area-----but there are 3 hospitals that my school uses, so until we start class in January...we won't know how far the drive is. Our clinical is one long day...6:45 am to 7:15 pm. Add in another hour to drive there & an hour to drive home--it's gonna be a long, long day!

I have to be at my clinical 8am sharp, Yuck!

Our clinicals start at 6:30am and it's at a site that's 30 minutes away. Not fun when you are battling white out conditions and a foot of snow on the road....LOL

I guess ours is very different. Once you get in the program you never have to register again. It is all done for you.

I start my first clinicals in Jan., and I had to register.

But, we won't know what time or where to go until mid December, when they post it on a bulletin board.

I'm pretty clueless about it.

She told us, don't schedule anything for before 4 pm. If you work, you must work after 4. And weekends are free.

I'm at West Boca right now (1st semester). The clinical instructor there is WONDEFUL!! I feel so lucky to have had her first semester. She is very laid back, but can be serious when she needs to be. She has definately earned my respect and admiration. West Boca is also a great hospital, my only compliant it the food. It is horrible!!

My friend is at Bethesda right now (also 1st semester). She really likes the instructor (has almost 30 yrs experience and is as smart and sharp as the come), and she says the food there is wonderful.

BTW I got right into the site at 12:00 exactly and was registered by 12:05. I couldn't believe my luck!

No school tomorrow!! Woohoo!

We get to pick the day and time of clinicals. AND we get to pick the site. We also get to pick our instructors! :)

I like the way ours is set up. The instructors have what they call 'plans'. Each one is set up to allow for some pre-reqs. I don't have pre-reqs until summer. So I am going to school next semester on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. :D

My clinicals are on Wednesday and Tuesday late afternoon.
