I plan to apply for a job at a hospital, it says the pay is per diem, (something like that)
What does per diem mean?
Also, I'm gonna drop my application tomorrow or Friday of this week. How long does it take them usually to process the application? 'Coz I need to find out by January 15 at least to see if I got the job or not.

I work per-diem and I only work on the days that I want to. Sometimes I work 2 days a month sometimes non at all. Or they will call me and see if I can cover a shift b/c someone has called off.

Literally translated: per day
In business, my "per diem" was the money given "per day" to cover meals and misc. items.
Ck w/ HR to see what they mean specifically...

Its also means that you're not staff so you won't receive any benefits (insurance, accrued vacation, etc) so the rate per hour is higher than you would get if you were on staff.
