Well Elder Assignment

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone else has to do a well elder assignment for nursing 101? We have to interview a well elder in our community and submit a paper based on 3 interviews. I am in the process of conducting the 1st interview, but was just wondering what other questions I may need to ask. I plan on documenting stuff about daily activities, dietary, attitudes about health, etc. Anyone have any other ideas?

what about previous medical history and spiritual well being?

We had to do one, it was a fun assignment.

My guy and I went out and had a few beers.

I had to do one as well. We had them keep a 2-3 day meal diary for us to go over with them(breakfast, lunch, and dinner any vitamins..etc), home safety (smoke detectors, extinguishers, phone cords in middle of floor), relationships (children, spouse, neighbor?), and how much assistance they need doing things like bathing, toileting, do they still drive etc.. My well elderly loved our visits and I found the experience rewarding. I hope you do as well :p

Assistive devices-- increased volume telephones, magnifying glasses to read small print, night lights, unobstructed paths, no scatter rugs, and recommend a phone in the bathroom--where most falls occur. :)

we had this assignment as well for our fist year in clinical (i'm in a 4 year bachelor's program) we had to take their vitals, ask what meds they were on, elimination patterns, their interst in their own health, their families interts, wich heath care resoursed they use such as meals on wheels etc. eating habits, mobility......ehhh that's about all i can remember...:) oh we also whent through a safety check list with them...i don't remeber the questions on it though....it was a whole year ago :imbar

We only have two visits though. I have to scrounge someone up, cuz I don't know anyone except my friends and coworkers. I was thinking of asking our Home Health Director -- I'm sure he could point me in the right direction!

I had to do that in my 6th quarter... CASE STUDY

We had to get all the info and such... compare the norms and do an analysis. we had to review everything systems, meds diet, safety..... and do it in APA format..............

If you can, get ahold of someome that has turned one in already, like from someone who has had one graded...... that will be a big help !!!

We did a well elderly too...and i frail. I dont enjoy geri as much as others so i hated it.. i did mine on my grandma...(i canged her name to protect my, i mean her identitiy, but we dont have the same last names anyways) It wasnt so bad..have lots of resuorces, like community, we had to for mine...like pamphlets and stuff...on things they could use (stop smoking etc) or things they may use (grief counseilling etc). Good luck with it :D

I remember that assignement - I loved it! :)

My subject and I went out for the afternoon and I noted the things that might potentially impede a senior that I would take for granted - finding parking, reading fine print on a menu or in the store, etc. He also had the coolest little diagram that he'd made - a drawing of himself with arrows to all his surgeries and medical problems on it that he used when he went a new doctor. The instructor thought it was great lol.

Added bonus: his wife was about 30 years younger than him (they'd been married forever) and I cared for the wife's mother, who was only a year or two older than the man, but because of Alzheimer's and other problems, her 80 years old and his 80 years old were vastly different. Made for an interesting contrast.
