Ultrascopes???

I'm starting nursing school in August :yeah: and I am looking for a stethoscope. I found the ultrascope website and they are SOOO CUTE! But would anyone recommend that brand?

What is the best stethoscope for a beginning nursing student?

LOVE my Ultrascope! I hear much better with it than my (double the cost) Littman.

I have one wih a little stick figure nurse on it. The sound quality is AMAZING! I would get one again in a heartbeat!

I have one and I love it. I bought it 1st semester and had my name engraved on it. I also have a Tycos (on the level of Littman Cardiology III) and the only gripes I have about the ultrascope compared to my tycos is that it doesn't have a non-chill ring around the diaphragm so it's cold to place on pt's skin and sometimes the sound is too good! If the tubing rubs against anything or my fingers aren't perfectly still when auscultating then I can hear a magnified rubbing sound that drowns out the sounds I want to hear.

Otherwise, it's comfortable in my ears and terrific!

I got one as a congratulations gift for getting into nursing school. I was so excited, it was really cute, but I couldn't really hear anything with it. A few weeks into clinical, the threads where the diaphragm screws on were stripped, and the diaphragm wouldn't stay on anymore. I sent it back, and for the interim I got a Littman classic SE II. I was amazed at what I wasn't hearing with the Ultrascope. I still have both, and I think the ultrascope is cute and all, but I found the Littman had better acoustics (and its tubing is ceil blue..pretty cute too, I think :loveya:) Hope this helped!

I looked at Ultrascopes when I was picking out my stethoscope, and when I showed the website to my mom (a doc who lives in another state) she went and bought herself one to see how they worked, and she liked it so much that she kept it and sent me her old Littman. She says they're pretty much the same in terms of sound quality, but that the Ultrascope is so damn pretty and easily identifiable that she's never going back to Littmans.

I have an Ultrascope, too, and absolutely love it! Instructors weren't quite thrilled with it when I was using it during lab, but once they tried it they couldn't believe how well it worked. I have had nothing but positive feedback from anyone who uses one.
