Transferring During Nursing School (TN to FL)

Has anyone ever transferred to another school during nursing classes? I withdrew last year from nursing school during second semester or a 4 semester program (due to child care issues, that sucked SO bad!!!) and was planning to go back when my son went to kindergarten this fall, but now we are moving out of state. We live near Nashville, TN and we are moving to eastern Florida, near Melbourne. I am looking into Easter Florida State College and Keiser University. Can anyone give me an idea if I will need to repeat first semester (I hope not!) or can I transfer into second semester? Does anyone know about the 2 schools I'm considering? Any advice is appreciated!! TIA!

I can all but guarantee that you will need to repeat block 1. It is very rare that nursing schools will transfer credits from a different program when they are not in a district with each other (like some CCs in a state will have 1 program curriculum set up for all colleges in it's district and you can transfer between them). Also, of the school that will actually accept nursing core classes from another program will usually require a transfer within 1 to 2 semesters so the knowledge is fresh. Basically, don't get your hopes up and start applying now so you can get in faster. GL

Okay, I called a school today and she sounded like I could absolutely transfer in and would NOT have to start back over...but I guess every school is different. Being that I only finished 1 COMPLETE semester I guess starting over isn't the end of the world, I just hate that I "lost" that money, kwim? It was an amazing experience since I got to be at 2 top hospitals in the country for clinicals, one being Vanderbilt Children's, but still bummed it won't "count". I guess I'll find out once I can sit down with the nursing director and they can look over all my stuff.

I know at my campus you can transfer in at the start of a semester, but you can't transfer in at middle of a semester. You would have to wait until the start of the new semester and they would basically look at your transcripts and give you an exam and skills test to determine where to put you or at what stage/classes in the program to put you. If your "fit" is in the first semester as opposed to the second or third.. that is where they'd stick you. (I say semester because our classes are by specifically by semester and locked, but other programs and colleges are different.)
