Student Loans

Aaaaghh!!! Tuition and books are horrendous! I was just wondering....how many of you have to use loans for your nursing education? I am in the 2nd year of my BSN program and already in debt from loans. I am hoping to get some scholarhips for next year once I am accepted in the nursing program. America really should make higher education more affordable.

If it weren't for Pell grants and Stafford loans, I wouldn't be in school at all! I'm finishing up my sophomore year this semester, and I've already got about $6K in student loans. I'm planning on quitting my job if I get into the BSN program this fall, so that loan amount will multiply greatly when you factor in what I'll take out the next two years for tuition/books/living expenses! Yuck! :(

I am in my 2nd semester of the nursing program...and with the first 2 years of school I think I now have about $9000 in loans. I am just hoping to be able to sign on to one of those programs that will forgive part of your debt in return for working in an underserved area...

I am 30,000 in debt from my 1st bachelors, and will be 45,000 in debt (the max you can take out for a BS) by the time I'm done w/ my BSN. I know people whore are 60,000 in debt from getting a masters. Student loan debt is 10x's better than credit card debt! I try not to think about all the money I have out in loans........

I'm already ~$15,000 in debt, and I'm only in my second semester. I'll be between $25K-$30K in debt by the end of the program this December.

I am going to have to use loans for my BSN. Hopefully I can get a Perkins loan because the interest is less then a Stafford loan. The college I am attending is almost $24,000 per year and it is a four year program. I tried to get into the local community college but there is a two year wait list and I passed my second year and still can not get in. At leat I got all my pre-nursing classes dfone and can start right in on the nursing program.

I'm glad you are only 6k in dept after two years. I don't even want to think about the total cost of my eduation. Hopefully I can make it up after I get my license.

Final tally for all student loans used during my entire nursing education? $42,000.

Congrats on you graduation!

I think most Americans take out loans. My tuition is $20,000/year but since I just started at this school in Jan that's cut in half and I got about $5000 in grants and the rest in scholarships. I know when fall comes around I won't be so lucky and will have to borrow. I did most of my pre reqs at the local cc so that will cut down on my time as a student there.

School loans don't bother me. Credit cards I can lose sleep over. To me, education is everything and I can't put a price on that.

Don't let it get you down. I think it is worth it, as long as you just borrow what you need. The people who get into trouble are the people who borrow a lot of money to buy new fancy clothes, or a new stereo for their car or...well, you get the point :)
