Senior Preceptorship Area

I know this is an old question, but maybe there are some new ideas out there... I'm trying to decide what area to request for senior preceptorship (starting in a month or so). My original choice, ER, looks like it's not going to happen d/t space issues, and I'm not sure what else I want. My eventual plan is to go into OB, but I'm reluctant to go right into it from the beginning--I want a wider experience, and I want to use more of the skills of learned, and--well, and I want to be in the ER...

Anyway, my options are fairly open otherwise, so if anyone has any suggestions of A. a specific specialty area to try, or B. how to figure out what I want, I'd love to hear them!

I know a lot of people are not too jazzed up to do med/surg, but don't overlook this as a specialty! You will really be able to work on your organizational skills. Since you'd like to pursue OB, have you thought about trying for a gynecology/women's oncology floor if it's available?

Gynecology is a great suggestion! I'll look into that.

It's too bad you can't get into the ER that's where I did mine. It was an awesome experience for me. I got to do all kinds of skills I never got to do in school. But the other poster is correct. Med/Surg was my second chose and now that I have graduated that is where I will be working on Med/Surg until an opening comes up in the ER. Good luck to you!!
