Recommendations on books that are good preps. for school

Hi everyone,

Well, I'm finally on the road to nursing school. I start my first class next week. Just taking one this semester, Psych.

Anyway, I am really eager to get learning and want my actual nursing classes to go as smoothly as possible. So, I was thinking of getting some books that I could read now and start reviewing, that would be helpful when I get to the nursing part of my education. Does anyone have any suggestions on books or thoughts about this? I am nervous about the math (I'm math phobic) and on another thread Kim-RN recommended "Dosage Calculations Made Incredibly Easy" by Springhouse.

Any other recommendations? Maybe something for Anatomy, etc.?

Any advice you have would be appreciated.

Shoot~ I just used my A&P book to study up with. I wish I knew of something to tell you that would help. If I can think of anything here shortly, I'll post for you.

But as far as learning anything beforehand, don't worry~~~ you'll learn it in school.

I'll keep thinking.

Springhouse also makes "Incredibly Easy A&P" and a lot of other incredibly easy books.

Also for math classes to get a jump start "Cliff Notes" has some good pre-algebra, algebra paperback books they can be purchased in the book sections at say "Wal-Mart"..etc. also online at Amazon.com and other online bookstores.

Julie is right, you will learn a lot in class and if you have a great instructor that will really help.

I think instructors have a lot to do with how well you learn in class. See if you can use a tape recorder to tape lectures.

Also there are helpful internet sites that you can go to for help on certain areas that you want to brush up on i.e. Math, Eng, writing etc.

I personally like "Google" as a search engine and find almost everything I need there.

Honestly, I think I would just wait to learn anything about nursing until you are in the class. The dosage book is helpful, but anatomy and that was just easier for me to do in class. You may get overwhelmed if you start too early.--- just my opinion. :)

I agree. An anatomy book can look awfully intimidating until you go through it in class. Besides, not all instructors use everything in the book.

I hope I didn't mislead you in my earlier post.

IF you are taking prereq's and need some help in those areas i.e. math, Eng, etc. then my tips might be helpful to you.

The "Incredibly Easy" A&P book by Springhouse just helps you to understand some of that overwelming stuff in your book, if you need it.

I agree that you don't want to memorize everything beforehand,(A&P) but if you need help along the way with what your instructor gives you I think the "Easy" book is a nice tool.
