We take a LPN predictor exam from ATI at the end of the semester. It tells you what your % is of passing the boards, but it dosn't affect our grades.

My school uses the HESI as the predictor. Every semester we have to take it but it only "counts" when we take it our senior year. I've not heard of another type of predictor test unless your school has their own. Do you have to pay for it? Maybe their trying to save you money. I have no clue, sorry. :)
