Pre-Nursing

Hi I'm currently a senior in high school and got accepted into Cal State East Bay and San Francisco State for pre-nursing. I'm not sure which one is the best for pre-nursing. I want to SFSU for nursing tho.

If you want to go to SFSU for nursing, than you should go there.

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

I would just go where you prefer for the nursing program. Unlike medicine or pharmacy or law or other graduate programs, pre-licensure nursing is an undergraduate program. "Pre-nursing" isn't a major in itself; you would be a nursing major who has not yet begun the core program classes. Save yourself the headaache of an unnecessary college transfer.

The best for pre nursing might be the "other" option. Since both schools do not guarantee entry to their nursing program (unless something has recently changed) you have to look at what school is going to allow you to finish your pre reqs in a timely manner. I've heard horror stories from SFSU students able to get a lecture class but not the lab and it's taken them so long to complete the nursing prereqs at SFSU simply because the classes are impacted. I even had an SFSU student in my physiology lab at USF because she just couldn't get into the physiology lab at SFSU. You could go to a community college where getting classes are pretty easy (I was able to register for them with a terrible registration date). But if the schools are giving you a good scholarship and you are looking for more of a college experience (living on campus) then I would choose which ever school is less impacted. You may end up applying to many CSU's after you finish the prereqs to better your chances for entry into a nursing program. Good luck to you!!
