Nursing student being abused by teacher and staff

Hi, im not sure where to start.

I am 9 months into my diploma of nursing course, something I want more than anything. But of late it has been a nightmare to be at school! my teacher continually puts me down for asking questions that im not sure about, she humiliates me in front of the whole classroom, and allows other students to be rude to me when I ask or have input in class discussion. I have asked her to please stop and its not ok, since then my exams have come back with marks rubbed out and changed, results are different than they are ment to be, my work "disappears" and then claimed I never handed anything in!

I have gone and spoken to the head of the nursing program to which I was told I would be spoken to when she is at our centre next, which I was ignored when she arrived. I have gone to the manager at our centre and was told im being silly get over it. Another incident occurred yesterday where I was blamed for something several other students have done, the manager came into our classroom and screamed at the top of her lungs at me calling me names telling me I don't belong here and shouldn't be a nurse etc, after I left and tried to calm down she came and had another round and finally when she allowed me to speak and told her I didn't do anything she said oh well and left.

I have gone from just coping with everything occurring to now a complete mess and I honestly don't know if I should do this anymore! I cant goto my teacher, I have tried the manager at our centre, I have tried the nursing manager, and also the head office all of which I have been told get over it your just causing trouble.

I'm terrified I will be failed or abused again and I don't know where to turn to know what I could do in this situation? so please if anyone could give me any tips or suggestions I would be incredibly grateful!!

I think it's ridiculous that your being treated this way....I think you need to go to the highest of the high when it comes to this matter. When it comes to your assignments you should turn in a hard copy and also email everything and save a copy in your sent folder that way you have proof that you are turning in things.. I pray this issue gets resolved!!

Thats tough. I am sorry that this is happening to you and its not ok. This may sound bad but I would try to record the lectures so that way when the techer acts rude and nasty to you, its on your recorder (I am not sure if the teacher allows you to record lectures), if she does allow you, DO IT!!!! That way if you fail the class and/or the program, you can use the tape as evidence of harrassment and try to get something resolved.

If your instructor allows you to record lectures wouldn't that constitute her permission to be recorded? Seems to me it would.

no, it would not, unless the op is stating at this particular time he/she is recording the professor. She/he is not allowed to do it, and this evidence would be dismissed legally.

I was in a similar situation and I withdrew...you have more guts than I..my question is, will this teacher become your clinical teacher? The reason why I'm asking is the teacher can fail you and you will not have a leg to stand on-all she has to say is you are not safe around patients...this sounds to me like a no win situation. If no one at your school is going to at least investigate..well I'd rather drive 2.5 hours to a school that will treat me with respect-

Agree with Red it sounds like a no win situation, change schools, get past feeling hard done by and focus on accomplishing your goals.

It may be hard to just change schools. A lot of nursing school won't accept credits from other nursing programs because classes may be a little different. Can you get a recording that a classmate had permission to record and use that as evidence?

I understand that it will be difficult to change schools, likely it will mean starting over again. The only attitude that the op has control over is their own, I really can't see how a recording is going to change other peoples attitudes.

Hi... you said there is one person left at the top to whom you have not spoken?

It's time to make an appointment and go to that person to share what is happening.

I know the person who directly reports to the head honcho may contradict what you say, and even (possibly) triumph.

But how much worse can things get? It's worth the risk - and what's the worst they can do? Throw you out of school? I'm fairly certain that taking a concern, as a student, to top management is not an expellable offense in their policies.

My guess is, however, that you will be heard. It's amazing how often the people at the very top can see through these situations and intervene on behalf of the injured party.

Keep documenting, in case you need to find a lawyer later to pursue a civil action.

Document EVERYTHING. IF you can, record lectures and maybe get evidence of things happening. Then send letters expressing every incident and send it to all the managers that are above the teacher. If you do get evidence on a recording or eye witnesses, take it to the higher ups. DON'T give up! Be brave and stand up for yourself and the next person that might go through what you are going through. Maybe even the president of the school. Stay calm and just do your best.

Yeah well if she fails because of this teacher...she will have to start over-and she will REALLY not have a leg to stand on-the school administration will think she is "bitter" because of a failure.

OP: I really feel for you...I hope you look at all of your options. But as for my two cents..why would you want to give money to a school that doesn't care about you and allows their teachers to be bullies??

Now you are right aubgurl, no matter what the circumstance she was accepted and has every bit the right as anyone else GREAT ADVICE!!!!!
