Nursing Central Required Before Starting Program

Anyone know why a purchase of Nursing Central is required at the bookstore the summer before starting class? None of the other books are required this early. I'm not complaining about it, just truly curious. Anyone know why this is or what it is used for? I looked online but I still can't figure out why it's needed in advance of beginning the program.

Just my guess, but might it be because there's a heavy consumer demand for it???

Your school might be trying to get ahead of the crowd by requiring you to get it ASAP before all the other nsg schools in the country cause a 'run on the bookstore'. If you were to put off its purchase too late and then you need it and it's not avail .... Publishers do have backlogs of 'best-sellers' (as it was called on Google).

Oh, well. Just my guess.

I haven't heard of Nursing Central before. It is an phone or tablet app? and when I looked it was $169 for a year subscription? Unless you had assignment due before class starts I would ask someone at your program. At that price point, I'd want to start my subscription when school starts.

Nursing Central is an online app that includes Davis's Drug guide and several other useful apps like calculators, diseases, labs etc. BUT it is a yearly subscription, you do not own or buy anything. its $169 a year, so I would not buy it until the first day of school, I have the app myself as it was recommended by the program, I googled for discount codes and found one over Xmas for 20% off, making it $135 a year.

you can pretty much find other apps, like micromedex for $2.99 for drug book or buy the Davis's drug guide on amazon and get a free 1 year access to the online version at nursing central (AKA unbound medicine) same goes for their Lab guide. also includes tabers medical dictionary.

I will only have 1 semester left when my current subscription runs out. I doubt I will buy it again as i found other apps to take its place for the most part. then again it will be a tax writeoff

There might be a possibility that they will have some assignments before your orientation or classes start that you may need this for. I've heard of other places doing that.
