Hi All,

I've heard quite a few of you say you've already received letters of acceptance for the Fall 2004 Programs - Congrats to you all.

The School I've applied to goes in steps and it's such a dragged out process that doesn't end until May... I posted a long note last week - challenged their algebra placement exam after studying my behind off for a few months (with my Sons help) and shocked myself, husband, kids, etc. Nursing Program requires you to place into intermediate algebra - I placed 20 classes beyond that into their college level calculus and statistics course. Still in shock over that one, but it only got my foot part way in the door.

Next step is to take what they call a TEAS Test (anyone heard of this)? Test of Essential Academic Skills - aka - Nursing Admissions Test. I'll get the book next week to study from - the test is in March. I've heard it's a sort of general studies test - math, english, science, etc. - after the algebra exam, I'm not worried about the TEAS Test but wondering if I should be....

Next Step - by April they have to have proof of your CPR Certification and a copy of a recent physical exam signed by your Doc. and Hepatitis B Vaccination series must be started. Guessing if you aren't in tip top health, you're doomed - (Note to Self - join the local gym this week, lose 10 pounds, hit the tanning bed to have a healthy "glow", tell them I have every intention of running the Boston Marathon in the near future or when Hell freezes over - whichever comes first) then just see how it goes from there, ha, ha...

There is unbelievably another step after this according to my paperwork. Should there be more qualified applicants than space available (which there will be) they go on a point system from there. I was in the Navy's Hospital Corps and knew quite a few Med. Students and I swear - it seems easier to get into Medical School than Nursing School - good grief.

Any advise on the TEAS Test would be greatly appreciated - Thanks.. SusanNC:nurse:

Wow what a process! I dont know what the other test that you have to take is all about, but good luck! I am currently a Hospital Corpsman in the Coast Guard, but I think the Navy Corpsman are better prepared for nursing, because we have no hospitals in the Coast Guard. It seems like you have a great shot!

I don't know about the TEAS test, but I had to take an ASSET test. I guess it was because my ACT scores were 10 years old.

I don't know anything about the test, but in response to your doctors physical....Don't worry. Mine was nothing more than an interview and a review of my records. They are looking for anything that would put your patients at risk, or you at risk. Like compromised immune system, injury that would prevent you from performing tasks. We had two girls that were pregnant and still had no problem passing the pysical.

Good Luck!

That is a lot!

Susan -- Our school includes all the items you mentioned, plus more.

BTW, the CPR they required was that for health care providers (not the typical version many of us already had).

Proof of childhood diseases (or equivalent titres) were also necessary. Hep B, TB, and Tet immunizations too. (May be forgetting one or two others.)

Additionally, criminal background and child abuse checks had to be done.

Good luck!
