Hi Everyone!!!
My name is Renee (but you can call me Rae) I am a new first Semester ADN nursing student... Nursing 101...
Egads... scared to death of the fist test.. its not like any other classes I have taken.
They are all over the place... I am a Phi Theta Kappa Honor Student.. for the last two years.. have taken all my other classes for nursing.. except the nursing.. thought it might be easier.. but I think... they are purposefully trying to kill me..LOL
I am a 37 year old mom of 4 and wife to a fabulous husband... I changed careers mid life.. use to working with computers and business administration.. gave all of the that up for the glorious work of a CNA in a nursing home so I could get some hands on experience in the medical field.
I am looking for freinds.. who understand the stresses.. and people to have discussions with.. study tips.. and just basically trying to survive what has seemed to become a life consuming transformation into an RN.
Best wishes,
Rae

Welcome Rae! It's nice to meet you! We have quite a few non-traditional students who are starting a new career here!

Rae,
Welcome! I too am older (41) and changing careers (if I would quit trying to talk myself out of it) from working in accounting. I haven't started nursing, probably in the fall. This semester I am finishing up my Associate of Arts degree with another math class and also taking Micro to finish up all my prereqs for nursing.
I just applied to a nursing home who will be offering STNA training in February to gain some kind of experience and hoping it will make me less afraid. How do you like being a CNA?
Good luck in your classes this semester.

Hi, I am a non trad student too. I am 33 years old and have four children ages 15, 13, 9 and 7 and have been married to my husband for 15 years. I am in my second semester of nursing school and am loving it. It is wierd though being such a non trad student though, in my nursing class of 80 I am an outcast. Its not that I haven't made any friends, every one has been very nice, it's that I just don't click with anyone. Most of the time it dosen't bother me, but sometimes it would just be nice to be invited out with the other students or even to feel like one of the group. I just try to remember that my husband and my children are the light of my world and what free time that I have with school, I want to spend it with them.

Welcome, Rae
You've come to the right place for friends and support through the nursing school process. I'm 44 and have two teenagers and a husband, have been going to school part time for four years and expect to graduate in May. It's a career switch for me too, but nursing has been a lifelong goal of mine. Welcome aboard!!

Welcome to the board and to nursing:)
Isn't it great to see the range of ages in a nursing class?

Hi - I'm a new "non-tradional" student too. 36 - midlife career change, mother of one and grandmother (too young). They are trying to kill you your first semester Rae - I 'm in my second semester of "nursing" in an accelerated CD2 program for a BSN. I did live through last semester, thought this one would be a little easier but I think it's going to be a battle for life throughout. I don't know you guys do it with several kids! Big pat on the back to you.

I'm a 45 year old mom to one 12 year old son. I started back for my ADN in 2002 -- took a year of classes before I could sit for entrance exam - then had to wait 2 more years to begin nursing classes. Have all other classes completed except nursing. Am in 1st hospital clinical - now have 4 quarters after this one. It's very hard -- but if you want it badly enough, you will make it happen! Trust me - that thought keeps me going each and every day.
I hate to get off here but my care plan is calling! Good luck - email me anytime ([email protected]).
