My scrub pants are killing me!

Me and scrub pants just don't get along it seems. :/

It seems no matter what brand of scrub pants I buy, they hurt the hell out of my inner thighs. I just think that because they inevitably fit more relaxed, the material just rubs against them (I guess). It is at the point now where my skin is red, patchy, irritated, occassionally itchy and won't go away.

My only solution is to buy some thin leggings to wear underneath. What could I buy OTC to help my skin heal well?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Try long compression shorts underneath. I wear them during clinicals because I'm always running and they feel comfortable.

My scrubs only did that when the seat of the pants was too long, so could be the fit? where the crotch seams are actually the culprit. If you know someone who sews or does tailoring, see if they can adjust the length of the seat to keep that seam higher up.

Monistat makes an anti chaffing powder gel and it's awesome. I use it when I wear a dress. It goes on as a cream but, feels powdery with no greasiness.

You guys have made some great recommendations!

I am happy to say the Gold Bond Friction Defense WORKS! I apply it liberally to the irritated areas on each thigh once after getting out of the shower and it works the whole day. It was put to the ultimate test yesterday on a twelve hour shift. No pain!

It is healing the irritated areas too. The skin is no longer dry and scaley feeling. :)

Panty hose. Doesn't matter if they have runs in the heels :)

I use a product called "No More Monkey Butt" yes that is typed right. It is a powder to prevent moisture and chaffing. Motorcycle riders and athletes use it too. I had a pt s/p CVA with contractures to the left hand and they used it to keep her hand from getting sweaty and smelly.

Vaseline...a lot of athletes use it to reduce friction.

I used to do sports med. Skin Lube by Cramer is very popular. It melts at a higher temp than Vaseline does, and stays in place better. However, it could lead to that infamous grease stain. There are lots of powders, sprays, roll-ons, and the like that seem to be reasonably good at reducing friction. Start with powders and sprays first before moving on to the jelly stuff. Just remember that if you're not getting the relief you're expecting from these products that you may have an infection...

for treatment on the rash between your thighs, try this ointment I used on most of my skin irritation issues, it is a product by the company : FOUGERA / Double Antibiotic Ointment ( Bacitracin Zinc and Polymyxin B Sulfate Ointment USP) , it is a first -aid antibiotic, initially used for minor cuts and burns but is provides quick relief by applying on irritated areas ,even if the irritation is just starting up such as sore, redness on the skin surface or there is already skin surface breaks, it immediately dries up the irritated area to give you immediate comfort within a few minutes after application, ones the ointment dries up it also provides protection on the irritated area without applying any gauze cover or talc powder application.

Glad you found the fix! Wish I'd known of it when I started wearing the immobilizer sling -- but will know to recommend it to others in future. Thanks for sharing that little gem.

^^ Second that ^^

Oh yeah, that stuff is awesome! Actually wish wound care staff would look into using it between skin folds, esp on our "fluffier" pts -- it really decreases friction and discomfort where skin can rub against skin. (oh yeah, I heard a lot of women also use it as a foundation primer)
