I am a freshman nursing student and in my A and P class we have to learn the 12 cranial nerves. I know that there are a couple little sayings out there to help remember them but I do not remember all of the one I heard before. I know the one was a little sick, but I don't care if it helps me to remember them. I would be very appreciative if someone would reply in the forum or in email if anyone knows what I am talking about or where I could find the sayings.

Thank you very much.

my thing is a stupid little song. : Oh oh oh T-t-a-f- VGV- AH!!! It seems stupid but it worked for me. The lady parts thing was a bit repulsive to me. As for sensory verses motor or both, it's like this

some say marry money but my brother says(it's) bad business (to) marry money .

Olfactory Sensory

Optic Sensory

Oculomotor Motor

Trochlear Moter

Trigeminal both

Abducens motor

Facial both

Vestibulocochlear sensory

Glossopharyngeal both

Vagas both

Accessory motor

Hypoglossal motor

oh oh oh to touch and feel very green vegetables.. ah

And to remember the carpal bones of the hand.....

Does anyone have a mnemonic for cranial nerves? I am having a hard time remembering them and what they do. I would appreciate any tips.

Thanks!

also to remember if they are sensory, motor or both for cranial nerves I-XII, the first letter of each is S=sensory, M=motor & B=both sensory & motor:

Some (I)

Say (II)

Marry (III)

Money (IV)

But (V)

My (VI)

Brother (VII)

Says (VIII)

Bad (IX)

Business (X)

Marry (XI)

Money (XII)

I haven't quite figured out exactly how to memorize all of them easily except for studying them over and over...here are some to start:

I = olfactory= its the first and you only have 1 nose

II = optic = is the second and you have 2 eyes

That helps you not to confuse the first two....

Hmmm.... I think I will not soon forget the cranial nerves again.

We got the Finn and German version, then our professor told us about the dirty version using the word blank when necessary. He told us the Finn and German version is ridiculous because everyone uses the dirty version :)

I learned this one as "Some say marry money, but my brother says big boobs matter most."

Also, for the other one ... I learned the off-color version -- not the clean version about the Finn and the German. However, for the final 2 nerves, it was a little different.

After 27 years, I still remember them! ?

Thanks for the help with the cranial nerves. I don't think that I will have a problem remembering them now! Thanks again everyone!

Yeah, I think I will remember them forever now! Thanks so much!!

My instructor (a 23 yo grad student) never told us the dirty mnemonics because last term one of her students was her mom's age (40's) & she thought she'd make her older student feel uncomfortable.

LOL on that one. I think a 40 yo could make a young 'un blush faster than the other way around.
