Microbiology help?

Nursing Students General Students

Well, I put Micro off until the end and now I have to take it . . . I'm dreading it. I barely survived chemistry and the thought of micro brings flashbacks of chemistry! This summer I will be taking micro and nursing role transition. Anyone have tips for getting through micro? Websites or study guides?

I really thought I had seen a Microbiology for Dummies book before but when I looked on Amazon, nada.

TIA!

Don't sweat it! If you took general bio you have a good foundation. Just do your reading, go to all the classes and study your notes. I loved micro lab, it was easy and I always enjoy viewing slides and you will spend LOTS of time doing that! I took Micro with AP2 in an 8 week summer semester and aced both - you can do it!

Microbiology is the last prerequisite I'm taking before I begin nursing school in the fall! All in all, micro isn't nearly as hard as everyone made it out to be. We got grade assessments in class Tuesday night, and, to my surprise, I'm making an A. I can't lie and say that there isn't a good deal of studying involved, because there is, but, if you are willing to study and try your hardest, you should do fine. At the beginning of the class I wasn't sure how hard I would have to study, but it became evident really clearly. By the time we took the third quiz, I had figured out what worked for me and what didn't. Basically I recopy all the notes I've taken in class, read the suggested chapters from our book, and combine the knowledge. I often add stuff from the book to my notes, and I often find myself making connections to material in the book that came from our lecture. As far as labs go, I read the lab prior to the lab date, I look up anything I'm unsure of and get definitions and information, and I try to understand the big picture of how the lab is going to work. That way, I've got a lot less to do when we do the lab and I have to interpret my results. If you study, pay attention, and go to class, you should pass the class without much of a problem. Good luck!

I think if you got through Chem, you will find micro easier and (believe it or not) more fun! I didnt necessarily found the two subjects relatable, but micro definitely had more memorization, but most people in my class (including myself) found it fascinating!

I sincerely believe if you go to a class with an open mind and try to *enjoy* it for what it is, you will do well! I thought physiology would be miserable, and had a bad attitude about it for the first test and didnt do great. Then, I tried to see the humor in the professor, studied harder, and ended up loving it. Great attitudes can make the world of difference!

Good luck, you will do great!

It's nothing like chemistry. I hated chemistry, but I liked micro! Micro includes more info about diseases, which I think is more interesting for someone who wants to be a nurse. :)
