Microbiology and Human Anatomy at the same time?

Hello, I'm wondering if I should take Anatomy and Microbiology at the same time. I've gotten a B+ in both my General Bios 1 and 2, A in my Bio labs and Biochemistry class and lab. But I wonder if taking Microbiology and Anatomy at the same time may be pushing it a little too hard?

It may be a bit much. I'm in A&P2 and Micro right now and it's a lot. I also work part time. I have a prior bachelor's and Micro has been the hardest class I have ever taken. Memorizing all these microbe names is A LOT. I'm terrible at memorization so there's that too. Are you going to be taking any more classes besides these two? It may be better to take one over the summer instead. That's pretty concentrated, but it may be better than taking those two and other courses.

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you!

Nope the last one is Human Physiology

Oh you're in one of those states where anatomy and physiology are different courses.... I personally am better at physiology, but most find anatomy to be easier. Go for it!

Specializes in EMT since 92, Paramedic since 97, RN and PHRN 2021.

Im taking Microbiology and A&P 2 right now. I work full time on the ambulance as a medic but my down time not on calls allows me to study. While it is a lot of work, Im glad I took them both at the same time.

Are you taking them in a regular semester or trying to take them both over the summer?

Anatomy is basically memorization; microbiology has harder concepts such as the metabolic cycle and detailed lab work. For microbiology you really do have to read and review the concepts to do a good job.

I'm taking them both right now.

Specializes in Med Surg/Ortho.

I took them together last semester (along with 2 other courses) and I admit, it was hard. If I had to do it over, I would have broken them up. But it is doable. It depends on how good you are at science classes, how much time you can devote to studying, and what else you have going on.

I think it depends on the set up of your classes. For me, anatomy and physiology I and II are A&P, instead of splitting it up. It my second anatomy class we covered the immune system and it was a lot easier because I already knew most of it from micro. It also depends on the rest of your class load. Two sciences can be a lot, but the question isn't if you can or can't do well, it's a matter of how hard you wanna work. You can definitely succeed in both, but it won't be easy. It's nice when science class topics cross over! If you do take both, try and find connections in what you're studying and that'll make it easier to remember concepts.

It really depends. Are you planning on taking other classes with then or just those two. I took both at the same time with another class and still did very well. You will have to be great at time management, but that will prepare you more for a nursing program. In a lot of programs you will not have the luxury of splitting up difficult classes.

Specializes in ICU, Postpartum, Onc, PACU.

It depends on the teacher and how they teach/grade. If you have someone who thoroughly explains everything in your learning style, then that cuts down on the studying you have to do to not only memorize things (which won't go away no matter how good the teacher is), but to understand a topic/system.

I would do both at once, but that's just me, because those were two of my favorite pre reqs (so much so that I did advanced anatomy when I was pre-med and it wasn't even required). I think it depends greatly on the teacher, but only you know how much you can handle.

You can sign up for both and then drop one before the drop date if it seems like it will be too much. If the tests and quizzes are staggered, it may work.
