So in January I will be starting my 4th quarter of nursing school. I have med surge & micro together on top of me starting a new prn position at a top local hospital!!! I am so nervous about this quarter. Any tips on how to study for med surge and micro? I really want to do good this quarter. I am half way through & I can not give up now!!! I need all of the tips I can get at this point lol

Wow, i had to take Micro before applying to nursing school

It was incorporated into our curriculum that we take it with a nursing class

Yeah, what state is this? Lol

Cali schools make you take bio, chem, anat, physio, micro; sometimes nutrition and med term. Y'all got off light!

Ouch! Micro is not a prerequisite for my Nursing program either but I'll be damned if I have to take a science course during the program. Instead I'm taking it next semester along with AP 2 to get it out of the way. You are going to have to be SUPER organized next semester, your planner should be your best friend.

Wow!! It's going to be tough. Micro isn't a requirement for my Nursing program but they strongly suggested we completed it before entering the program. I'm starting my program January 6th but I"ve been researching study tips/ tools to use.

~Med-Surg Success is a great book to invest in, you can find it on Amazon. Also, there's a great thread on here you can check out as well: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/how-i-got-963976.html

~For Micro charts/flash cards can be great to use for studying

~Be organized: a nice planner will save your life, make a study schedule so you won't feel so overwhelmed with all the work from both classes.

Good luck in your studies!!! :)

That sounds so difficult, but good luck to you! I bet you'll do well if you really make up your mind to work hard. My program doesn't require micro as a prereq either. They have it scheduled during fundamentals I believe. I'm considering taking micro during the summer to make my nursing work load more manageable if my school will allow it.

Has anyone taken micro during the summer with success? Would it be better to take it during the summer or with my fundamentals class?

Thanks everyone for the great advice. Im pretty sure its going to be a tough quarter but hopefully I can come out on top lol. I am from Louisville, KY. I know many programs require micro as a pre-req but not ours. I took pharmacology along with fundamentals last quarter and did pretty well. But i know med-surg is a different ball game lol

To me, Med surg was like fundamentals but you had to care/focus more on their problems - DM, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, etc. In terms of my clinicals, medsurg/fundamentals - the same kind of patients...

You are a lucky-ducky for not having to do micro prior to your program, lol.

I just finished my first semester of nursing school and took Micro along with Fundamentals. I can't lie to you, it was really difficult. Are you generally a good test taker? I'm very good at memorization and didn't have a huge problem with that aspect of it, it was just finding the time to read and listen to my lectures (Micro was a hybrid, so no classroom time other than lab) with everything else that was going on. The practice questions on this site helped me a lot: Biology 225 Materials

but that probably has something to do with the fact that the professor who made it used the same textbook for her course as we used in ours. I made a lot of flash cards and carried them around with me. If you want to get a jump on Micro before the semester starts I would suggest starting the learn the basic characteristics of fungi, protozoa, bacteria, viruses etc. because everything kind of builds on that.

Im good a memorization also. Thanks I will try to get a head start on micro!!
