Hi Everyone!

I'm a senior student and was just curious how my school compares with other schools.

We have no idea ever when we will find out our clinical placements; including days, hours, and hospital. Some semesters its weeks ahead of time and sometimes less than 1 week before starting.

So my question to all of you is how long before your semester starts do you find out your schedule?

Thanks in advance!

We didnt find out where we had clinicals or what time of day they were until the first week of school. We always had class the on MWF and clinicals T and TH of every week.

There is only 25 of us. We all go to the same clinical site, at the same time. For the entire program the clinical is on the same days, at the same time. Our classes are also on the same days and times, the entire program. Even our tests, are at the same time throughout the program.

We're really lucky. I can't imagine how some people only find out a week before what time clinicals are. Especially if you have children or a work schedule.

Wow, your program is even smaller than ours! We're the same way...lecture and tests together, but we have lab at different times (only 10 people allowed in lab at once) and we've been spread out to three hospitals thanks to the glut of nursing schools expanding out to our area.

4 weeks isn't a lot of time when people have work schedules and day care arrangements that need to be made 8+ weeks prior. I am losing half of my work shifts for September, but I know we got our schedule late because we were waiting for the LPN's joining us to pass their summer bridge course. The good news we are the only class that has our final scheduled!!

I would even take knowing days! I know I have to worry about baby-sitting and my husband has certain week days off and so far its all worked out but since starting teh program I've had sat. clinicals, afternnon shift clinicals, and fridays, which when we started we were told was rare to have any of those 3 things and I've ahd them all! We have no say in it and to switch is like what Meriweather ^ (sp sorry) said..If an instructor allows it, which I've never heard off yet, you ahve to then find someone thats willing to switch. I can't wait to be done this year!

4 weeks would be a lot of time to me! I have kids too and we found out 1 week before our clinicals last semester and our clinicals started the week class starts. They also will switch our lecture classes that we've already registered for if tehy conflict with our clinical day they want to give us.
