Our program boasts over 1000 clinical hours at the end of 5 semesters. (BSN program) I'm curious to see how this compares to other BSN and ADN programs. I know the date minimum is like 700 I think.

Oh, and 144 hours of senior practicum in a specialty of choice. Does everyone do this?

I'm not sure how many clinical hours hours out program has, but I know it's more than the required minimum. And we do get a senior preceptorship of 180 hours I believe. Our choice for preceptorship is based on grades. Above 85% and we can list our top 3 wanted specialties and they will try to accommodate. Below 85 and we get general med/surg

Ours is about 450 hours over our first two years (4 semesters) which is the minimum requirement for us to work as undergrad nurses and then another 600 or so hours over the next three semesters, plus 350 hours in senior preceptorship. Our preceptorship placements work that we get to pick three specialties and who gets their placement of choice is determined by availability and random draw -- which I think is a terrible system but that's another story.

Interesting!

Our senior specialty is chosen based on our top three choices and availability. It isn't ever stated but I believe grades and "who you know" plays into it as well.

1-year LVN program, 2004/'05: 954 clinical hours over a 12-month period

1-year LPN-to-ASN degree completion program, 2009/'10: 300 clinical hours

Online RN-to-BSN degree completion program (current): 90 hours worth of community health nursing field experience

My ADN program has close to 1000 I think. This is our first semester and we just started clinicals. I think in the 8 weeks we have left we have about 98 hours. They go up each semester.

4 semester traditional BSN program, about 650 total clinical hours, plus 180 hour senior preceptorship.

Preceptorship placement method varies each year, it seems. When I did it, we listed our top two (though most put three) choices of hospitals and top 2 (or 3) choices of units, and which of the two (location or unit) were the top priority. I was originally placed in my last choice for both, but a manager where I was doing clinicals wanted to bring me on, and spoke with my clinical instructor and with me, and through some finagling, we were able to get it switched. Then the hospital wouldn't let her hire me because of some politics. Sucked for everyone involved. But I had a great preceptorship experience.

I think I did about 850 clinical hours, no preceptorship. This was for my ASN.
