I'll be finishing up clinical medsurg II in about 4 weeks. We have planned to go out to dinner @ olive garden afterwards. I've talked with my classmates and the plan is to get our instructor a LL Bean tote bag w/ her name RN. Probably some chocalates in it.

I want to get her something from myself to her... Any suggestions??? She is a PACU nurse and one of the smartest people I have ever met. Was thinking a Card and Barnes n Noble gift card... but thas kinda lame

Usually just a thank you card with a personal handwritten note inside is very much appreciated~

Instructors understand that we are poor.... :D

A handwritten note is always wonderful, as would be a framed pic of the clinical group. Do be aware, many of us are forbidden to accept non-consumable gifts over a certain amount.

The handwritten note is the best idea. But also be sure to be very positive on any course evalation you do. That way, you help her career and help her keep her job.

If your school's culture is that you feel you must give a gift, gift certificates are often the best idea -- unless you know for a FACT that an instructor would like a specific thing. Teachers often get so many little gifts that they become "clutter" in our houses and offices -- "junk" that we feel guilty about throwing away because we know the kind thoughts and good wishes that went behind those gifts. However, you can only use a certain number of tote bags, pictures, date books, pens, cups with lids, mugs, etc.

So ... it's usual best to get something consumable or spendable on something of their choosing (gift certificate, food, candles, etc.) They get consumed rather than pile up around the house over the years. The cards, notes, etc. can easily be stored in a box, crapbook, wall collage, etc. to keep "out" to remind the teacher of the pleasant memories associated with the givers.

have someone take a nice picture of your clinical group and go to target and buy a matted frame (they cost like $10-$20) and some pretty colored sharpies and have everyone sign the frame on the matting around the picture.

we did this for one of our clinical instructors and i think it was really special to her and it is something she can keep forever.

another idea is a willow tree angel. i got one for an instructor that was very helpful to me when i was going through a really hard time. they all have their own thing like angel of grace, angel of learning, etc..., i got her the "guardian angel", cost about $12, and it's very pretty.

Monogrammed note cards make a nice gift....instructors seem to always have a need for them.

Gift certificates to their fav restaurant...or bookstore...or massage place.

Heck, we had an instructor in NS that our group gave a huge bag of birdseed because she had feeders outside her office :D

A donation to her favorite charity.

The semester I had psych was the semester my CI retired...we gave a wonderful wooden game box with drawers for playing pieces for the games Monopoly, Scrabble, checkers, and something else (I can't remember) with her name engraved on it to the psych hospital. She cried like a baby!!

I don't know what area you live in, but in our area we have a grocery store chain with gas stations attached to them. We've been getting them gift cards for the gas stations and they have been LOVING it. Most of them work their "regular" job and then come to the clinical site to work with us, so they are putting on a lot of miles on their cars and using a lot of gas.

Good idea.... but our instructor works in the hospital we have clinical in. Typically they hire instructors whow ork in those hospitals because their familiar with the facilities
