I'm now a Nurse Intern!!!

I don't believe that there is any difference it's just a matter of what each facility terms the position. Most place want you to have completed at least one or two semesters of clinicals before you can apply for an internship. It is all dependant to what the facility determines the requirements to be.

A nurse intern 1 at the hospital I work at can do everything but push meds and do care plans, but you can help the RN at his/her discretion. A nurse intern 2 can do everything that a graduate nurse can do. That's how I understand it. Anyone out there know for sure? :uhoh3:

I started off in Med/Surg as a PCT. I learned allot. Build your skills. You be able to get a job anywhere!

Now that you've been in the position for awhile, would you mind telling us how it's been, and what you've been doing? I was recently offered a nurse intern position in L&D, and would also be leaving my job as a phleb! I'm in a bitter/sweet situation, though, because I'd planned to stop pushing for the summmer, and just be home with my kids before semester II starts in the fall. If I accept, it will mean 12 hr. shifts for the summer, and virtually no break for me. I'm excited about the opportunity, though, and would like to hear your feedback. Thanks!

Next to marrying my wife, taking this job is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Can ya tell that I am loving it?! I have gotten to do so many things. Lots of dressing changes, both sterile and clean. I have gotten to practice my assessment skills. Put in foleys & NG tubes, and I've pulled more than I can count. IV starts, and hanging liters and liters of fluids. The nurses allow me to hang antibiotics and give insulin as long as they are watching. They are always looking for any opportunity for me to perform any skills that come up. I think that being on third shift has the advantage of me not being tied up doing the CNA stuff so I can do the NI things. Ultimately you have to decide what is best for you and your family, but from a person who went from being a Phleb to being an NI, I would recommend it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am also leaving a job as a phleb to be a NI. I start in the E.R. as a NI on the 17th. Good for you, I'm glad to hear it's going well.
