I am completely freaked.

i have been working towards nursing school ever since graduating from high school 5 years ago.. getting pre-reqs out of the way, dealing with ever-changing requirements which forced me to change plans and wait even longer to apply to the nursing program. i was excited yet scared when i received my acceptance letter into the program this past fall. now i have attended 2 orientations with my fellow students, have cna skill testing in a few days to complete my acceptance into the program (which is freaking me out though it shouldn't... i've been a cna for 4 years) and i have already had a few breakdowns. i read all over that the first few weeks are to mainly weed out the people who aren't serious about this or aren't cut out for it.... i am so scared it's going to weed me out but i don't want to be one of those people. :sniff: i haven't even started yet and i am so completely overwhelmed. this has been my dream ever since i can remember. i have been working in a clinical setting for 4 years and love it... i cannot let this overcome my motivation.. i just don't know how to bring myself together. now that it's actually here and i can grasp it in my hand, i want to throw it back out and go back to easier classes. has anyone else felt like this? i am terrified. :aln:

Just breathe! If you want this bad enough and work hard enough, you will succeed and you won't be weeded out. It is a lot of work and I felt the same way as you a while back. I have been out of highschool for almost 6 1/2 years now and piddled my way through college from then until now. I started my second semester of the nursing program today and I'm doing fine, I'm actually doing better than I expected. I passed last semester with an 89 as my average. You have to stay in control of this. You'll do fine. Just keep dreaming of the day "RN" will be behind your name and you are giving orders to the CNAs instead of taking the orders... and the day you make the big bucks! :grad:

Dearest Pink,

You need to relax. Consider an exercise program. I started aerobics 3-5 times a week when I started nursing school, it made all the difference in the world for me.

I doubt there is a weeding out function in your program, there just is not time for it.

I am a firm believer that if you have the smarts to get accepted into a nursing program, you have the smarts to get out successfully. You just have to focus.

I think just about everyone feels high anxiety when they start nursing school, you are not alone. Find an outlet for the stress and study, you will do just fine. Get excited about the new friends you are going to make in school, some of them will be your friends for the rest of your life!

PS: I graduated from nursing school last month, 35 yrs after graduating from high school. If I can do it, you can do it

I'm in my last semester. :-D Just started on Monday and am super overwhelmed but I've come this far right? No choice except to sprint to the finish line. :up: Thanks for asking, you are so very sweet!

Great! Good luck on your last semester. First day was fine, mainly hospital orientation, kind of boring. But I have started ancillary rounds since then (rounding through a lot of different departments to see how it all works and see how it will affect my department). I did 2 days in the ER and did a lot of IVs, couple of foleys and felt like an idiot when it came to meds and other things. I haven't been on my floor yet, I start my precepting on the 22nd. I got my first paycheck last week though! :yeah:All in all, I think it is going well. I love my hospital, I've enjoyed working with the people in other departments, I hope my floor is as welcoming and I love it as much!
