Just finished an LPN program and start classes towards RN Sept. 9th. Haven't even taken the NCLEX-PN yet! But did hear from the BON that I'm eligible....just need my ATT.
Yes! Yes I am insane!!!!
Just pre-reqs right now. The real fun starts next summer/fall. I talked to the director of a local school of nursing about advanced placement for LPNs and she said NO competition to enter the class! Cool!! And I get to work full-time through all of this! Woo hoo...should be tons of fun! But it's probably best to get whatever I can out of the way now, right? Right?? LOL!!
Can't wait to be done with all this school. I'm going to be paying student loans forever.

wow, cool, so they accepted all of your lpn courses? or do they accept the license? do you have to take chem, algebra.. etc.. ?
that is a good idea to get those prereq's out of the way !!:)
i think i will be paying back loans until i retire..lol:chuckle
Yep, need chem, biology and algebra. Guess what? I have NONE! I just have a speech and english class.
I'm pretty sure they accept the license. You have to be licensed to get the advanced placement. So I need that NCLEX before applying.
She is sending an application and said I will have no problem getting in once those three classes are done. Can't wait to be done, but it's going to be a while. I had thought of doing the excelsior online, but I really don't think I have the self discipline. No way I could make myself study on my own. I'm a wimp!

Good for you, OHmom2boys!! Congrats. Are you going to have any time to work as an LPN during your RN schooling? Sounds like a hectic schedule!! Best wishes!!!!

Well good luck to you, those classes should be fine for you! I'm glad you found a program that is right for you !
Here's what I've figured out so far! You have to have bio, algebra, and chem. You can test out on Maternal, Newborn and women's health alterations and Child and Adolescent health alterations. You have to take 3 Excelsior exams...just basic stuff. You then have to take an entrance or placement exam with at least a 75%. Then you would enter the last three quarters. Of those quarters, if you've already tested out of the two classes I mentioned above, you will only have two classes a quarter, which would give more time for the other pre-reqs. Also one elective during last quarter. I think I would choose sign language since I plan to eventually work rehab, neuro or with special needs children. Also an essay on why you should be accepted into their program. YUCK!!!
So that's it! Lots more very hard work, but all worth it in the end. :)
Now, I really think I need to schedule an appt with the director!!
Yes, I will work as an LPN this year. Probably will drop to part-time or maybe even take some time off once the nursing part starts. Not sure yet of what I'll be able to handle!
Thanks for the encouragement guys!

p.s. Shannon, didn't know you were gonna work at the hospital. Have you gotten hired yet? Good luck on the 5th!!
