Help needed please.

Does anyone have any idea where I can find a database on the internet that gives the safe dose ranges for common pediatric drugs? I'm working on care plans and didn't write down the ranges on my paperwork at the hospital. Now I'm having to backtrack and am having zero success finding any reference material on the subject. My Davis drug guide isn't accurate for pedi dose ranges.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

evolve.elsevier.com No www in front. It's the website for the makers of tons of nursing books. Click on the student link, and then nursing. It has links to books. You have to register, but once you do, you can access the etra info from the books, including several drug books. Good luck. -Andrea

I don't know much about this yet because I haven't completed a ped's rotation, but aren't pedi doses by kg or BSA? I have the Davis Nurse drug book and it gives ranges, you just have to know the wt of the child. If you don't have those though, that may be what you meant you are having a hard time with. I don't think you can find pedi doses without wts. SG

You are correct that peds dosage is based on size/wt. Davis Drug Guide doesn't take into account the metabolism of pedi patients with their faster clearances and more effective kidney function, etc.. It assumes that peds patients are just smaller adults adults and thus the dose ranges are probably lower than the true safe dose range. In any case, my instructor doesn't want us relying on Davis for pedi doses.
