gross anatomy reserved for med students?

Nursing Students General Students

I'm sure there is a reason why nursing students are not required to take gross anatomy; does anyone know if it's required for PA's or NP's?

I just finished reading a book on GA and found it very enlightening. I wonder if it wouldn't benefit nurses, especially OR nurses.

This thread is so funny. Only medical people..."WHEEEE, We get to play with DEAD PEOPLE!!!!!" Hehehe

To answer the cat question, they're easy/cheap to get and their anatomy really resembles ours quite closely. It's not a glamorous answer, but there you go.

Thank you for the answer. I was stumped when they told me we would be disecting a cat. A cadaver must be pretty expensive. How much is the lab fee for a cadavar class compared to a cat lab. I pay 100.00 extra for the lab.4 credit course instead of a three.

At least you guys get cats even!

This summer I am taking A&P1 and we were supposed to dissect a goats eye and muscle. But our class is running so short on time that we will not get to do neither.

I'm hoping A&P 2 will have some dissection. The only thing I have ever dissected was a fetal pig in my sophomore year of high school.

A local private women's college in my area offers a human cadavar as part of their A&P and it is offered to those in nursing as well as other majors like Surgical Tech. But the school is expensive and mostly a nursing college.
