I am in my last stretch of nursing school, and was just wondering how soon you start applying for jobs? I will probably take state boards sometime in June, but I am just curious if I wait till I pass boards to start looking for a job or do I start applying now?

Specializes in ICU.

You should have been applying way before now, IMO. A lot of my local programs closed applications for new graduate nurse programs in March. One place I applied stopped taking applications in February, and I saw a place where the deadline for the July start date was January 23rd. Your options will likely be very limited now for the summer or fall programs and you may have to wait to apply to programs next spring at this point.

January of your senior year is an appropriate time to start looking...

I would start now. We don't have new graduate programs where I work. We take new students any time of the year. I'm actually not sure what that type of program is. Good luck in your job search!

Specializes in Nursing Education, CVICU, Float Pool.

Our class applied for them starting in late March and started interviewing in late march/early April. We graduated this thurs, the 9th of May. I already have a secured job offer in a heart center CVICU, and so do 6 others of our graduating class of 17.

Everyone in our class has had an interview though! Most who don't have a actual offers at waiting for the the systems they applied to to complete all interviews before making official offers or call backs for peer interviews.

I also just got my ATT for NCLEX. So excited!!!!
