Funny/Embarrassing Moments of Nursing School

Now that I have graduated I can't help but sit back and think of my most embarrassing or Blush Worthy moments during nursing school.

My most memorable was during clinical my first time giving a Lovenox injection. I was so nervous I forgot to take the cap off :roflmao:. So i go to the site and attempt to inject it and it makes the click noise and my patient make this whaling scream OUCH!!!! Sooo her son who happened to be a doctor was in the room looks up to me and says " Please get the injection right PLEASE!. So my nurse looks at me and was like you didn't take off the cap (The woman screamed for no reason) LOL So I'm standing there looking crazy in the face:unsure: and had to get another one and do it over LOL!! I will never forget that day!!!

I have many more but that one sticks out to me because it was so embarrasing :x3:

Anyone have any funny stories from School or Clinical I'm sure we all do LOL

I had an instructor who grabbed the 1cc vial of penicillin out of my hand when I couldn't draw it up into the syringe (and yes, I did put in a bit of air first). She pulled out the needle, got another syringe, pulled up two cc of air, and pounded it into the vial. Then the stopper came flying out of the vial, and Kablooey! we got pcn all over both of us. On further inspection it turned out that the first syringe's needle had done a nice core biopsy of the stopper, and closed the lumen when suction was applied. And of course, after she put more air into it, the pressure in the vial was too high for the stopper to hold ...

But she never did apologize to me for telling me I did it all wrong. :)

In OB rotation (this was over twenty years ago), I passed out just as the doc was about to perform an epesiotomy. Last thing I saw was the head crowning, and the last thing I heard was the doc saying, "You don't look so good."

I went back later and apologized to the poor patient. I was mortified, but she was very sweet about it.

I hate OB to this day. Birthin' babies is not pretty or "magical." I'm glad there are folks out there who think it is and can hack it. :)

Specializes in LTC, Rural, OB.

My first day of hospital clinicals, 2nd quarter of freshman year, I gave an insulin injection with the patient's insulin pen. Not even thinking about it, I dropped the entire pen into the sharps container. I didn't even realize it until I went to get the pen later for her lunch time dose. Both my instructor and I spent at least a half hour looking for this thing before I realized that I had dropped it into the sharps container earlier...at the time I was pretty embarrassed but now with less than a week left to graduation, it's pretty funny and I have never ever done that again.

Ob really isn't my thing either lol! But this same thing happened to a class mate while we were watching a c section she totally fainted! they hit the code button and when everyone ran in they went to the patient and then they realized it was for the student! Talk about embarrassing! She laughs about it now come to find out she didn't eat breakfast that morning !
