Financial Aid...student Loans..help

I am getting ready to quit my job in December and go to nursing school. Currently I make too much money to receive pell grants, but I talked to the school today and they said that as long as I can bring in proof that I am unemployed they can go in and put it some extraordinary circumstances and I will be eligible for financial aid.

My husband will not be working, maybe part time as he finishes up flight training. We have saved for the time when we can quit to pursue school and we will be ok until he gets done.

My question is because i am married with no children, however, we will be unemployed... do you think i will still receivea full pell grant? I am definately going to need the money for scrubs, books, etc.

Next... loans... I am sure it will come to this and I would rather take out loans for my education than be stressed out about money, I know we will be able to pay them back when we are done.

If my school is paid for by scholarships and pell grants, can i still apply for a stafford loan for other expenses or do they only go by tuition needs from the school? Or do they just give you the maximum amount that you can take per year? I am a little confused on this whole ordeal... as you can tell I am new at the financial aid and loans!

Any tips you can give me would be sooooo appreciated.

I CAN'T WAIT!! YAY:D

Buddha says, "Only then are you truly enlightened." ;)

sign me up then; how do I get over myself if I happen to not be over myself; and how do I know if I need to get over myself--what are the signs/symptoms? Or is a diagnosis of not being over myself made when others tell me to get over myself?

o wow...according to the foremost authority, urbandictionary.com, to get over oneself, it "is what is said to someone who takes themselves a bit too seriously and is one snotty way to tell someone 'chill out already'". Or it's a "Patronising phrase used to tell someone that you believe they hold too high an opinion of themselves, or are behaving in a conceited or pompous manner. " Now I know.

And knowing is half the battle.

Asherah ...have you ever that found those who truly need to get over themsleves usually think they are the most enlightened people in the group? ;) with the people I know face to face that has been my experience anyway :rotfl:

But seriously on the other hand this post is getting way to heavy you guys ! I hope the OP and any one else who qualifies takes advantage of ALL the GOVERNMENT funded financial aid they qualify for , every single penny! We were also told at my NS that you should not try to work especially if you have a family because the intructors expect you to treat our school as a full time job...in other words they don't want you having any distractions. That is just not reasonable for most people with kids and a mortagage but there are some who will need to put that much effort and time in to pass the program and working might mean failing out for them. Should they not take all the help they can get ( it is a limited amount of time after all), just to avoid the stigma of being on the government dole? I think that gov. financial aid is one of the best things the government does with it's limited resources~ I'd rather my tax dollars help someone struggling through school for a few years than go into the pockets of some random welfare leech who plans on staying on assistance forever and never trying to make better for themselves ....

I think since my hubby works hard and pays his taxes and every job I have ever had took taxes from my pay checks...if I wanna focus on nursing school for the next 2 years so we as a family can become self-sufficient , that is OK! and if it is OK for me then it is OK for others who are making that effort .None of us has the right to judge some one elses worthiness of gov. assistance for college or financial aid grant programs ....I say at least be glad they are trying to do something productive, beginning a career that will sustain them financially in the future.

OK I am off my soap box :jester: , let's make this board a happier place to get some info or shut it down one , man, it is getting highly negative in here and that is not a vibe that I want to feel whene I come to allnurses !

Truth is if posters only want an affirmation of their choice they should either state that up front or email their Mommy or best girlfriend.

I'm going to email my mommy now... lol

Tell her I said Hi. I am going to call mine now too. lol
