Failed nursing school to psychology major?

I'm writing to find out opinions. I failed out of a nursing school program, there's not a way for me to gain re-entry into that program. My question is which one makes more sense. I could either try to enroll in an ADN program for the spring. That would be a two year program then plus then rn-bsn that I would do. This would ultimately take me three years. Or should I get a degree in psychology because this is also an area that interests me and then apply to a second degree nursing program. For some people they will say well if you really want to be a nurse then do the ADN and then the BSN. I don't want to say that I really don't like nursing but I don't love it either. At this point, to me it would make more sense to get another degree and then go back to nursing. The only reason I say this is because if I apply and I don't get in, I will basically be spending semester after semester waiting to get back into a program. By that time I could have already went for a different degree.

Any suggestions?

You need to ask yourself... why did you fail and what would you do differently next time. Nursing school is HARD and nursing itself is harder. If you don't love it, are you expecting to wake up one day and be head over heels? When I am having my worst night at work, and I have seven patients, hourly antibiotics on one patient, another who is psych, a confused patient who is having blow outs, what gets me through it knowing that I love what I do. I am not saying that you need to be in that place, but you need to figure out what your motivation is. Good luck

Why do you wish to pursue nursing if you have such ambiguous feelings about it? If nursing is not something that you enjoy doing, it seems a waste to continue in that direction when you could get a degree in something that you actually like.

I agree- why do you want to pursue nursing if you feel this way?

Next, be aware that any program to which you apply is going to ask you why you think you failed and how you will prevent it from happening again. You'd better have GOOD answers.

Is there something you enjoy more? Do you LIKE psych? What do you WANT to do?

Both paths are leading back to nursing yet you say you don't love it. Is it because you feel nursing will give you more opportunities and flexibility? I know plenty of people who went into nursing for those reasons and more. To each is own.

You failed out of nursing school, do yourself a big favor and reevaluate what happened before diving in again.

To be frank, I had a couple people who was in my ABSN with Masters in Psychology. They realized a PhD in Psych was needed to actually do something with it. ABSNs aren't cheap, so you may want to also look into your finances to see if its worth it.
