failed first nursing test

Hi ya'll-

I am in a ADN program that is highly competetive (I guess all are), and we had our first test. I needed a 78 at the very least and I got a 70. I am really freaking out. Did any of you fail your first, or any nursing test for that matter, and still be able to continue and complete your program? Thanks for your imput!

Don't worry! I failed my first exam also! You just have to adjust! It gets better, trust me :) try different ways to study until one sticks. Good luck!

I've always taken the first test / quiz with a grain of salt because of the unfamiliarity with how the professor is going to ask the questions, what was emphasized, etc. we just got our first med surg quiz back and the average was 80% (83% is our minimum passing grade I believe). Our professor said that she wasn't surprised at all at that because it was the first one and that we will learn and improve in the future.

The only other thing is that THE CHOICE OPTIONS SUCK!! In a very ironic "because they are all good choices" kind of way.

The thing with nursing school exams (and the NCLEX) is that often ALL the answers are correct...but one is MORE correct. You'll get used to it! What works the best is to study NCLEX questions now...and read the rationales for all the right/wrong answers. Hope that helps!

Many of the students in my cohort bombed the first test at the beginning of the program. I was a good-grade student before I began the program, but it's a different way of thinking, not just memorization (and my hatred for "choose all that apply" questions will NEVER go away, I guarantee you). Try not to be too discouraged. It happens to many, many people. You will figure it out, the best way for you to learn this new material. You'll get a better grasp on how to answer questions and you will understand things more deeply. Hang tough, and don't give up! Once you get that first exam over with, you'll have a better grasp on how that teacher works, and what type of things to keep in mind! Good luck! :)

My friend failed all three test and she can't retake it. I don't know what to do to help her now because she only gets 3 retakes then your out. Kicked out if she doesn't pass...
