Failed 1st nursing exam-Has anyone had the same experience?

I am in my third semester of nursing school and I failed my first nursing exam. I made a 72 on my first patho exam. I studied all week long, but I still failed that is why I am so upset. If I didn't study then I would be okay with not passing. *sigh* About 80-85 percent of the class failed. Has anyone been through this before?

In my BSN program, we (sophomores) met with a group of juniors today (sophomore officially 'begins' nursing classes/clinicals) to ask questions or whatnot. Pretty much all of them told us they failed their first NCLEX-style test. When I say all of them...I mean...all of them. Our first 'real' exam isn't until Monday, but I'm telling you -- the knowledge that these competent, progressing people failed their first exam makes me feel a little less crappy about my potential grade. So...to answer your question...not yet, but the possibility is high..and we'll suck it up and kick butt on the next one...then fast-forward to being awesome nurses :p HAKUNA MATATA BABY!

I was told by some nurse coworkers, "congratulations! Now you are a real nursing student". A lot of people fail nursing test. I failed one yesterday that about 60% of the class failed. We also had 3 people make 100% on it. So things happen. Shake it off, buckle down, and keep your chin up!

My psych class was a horror story. We think our instructor hated us beyond belief. We all barely passed. We had tougher tests than the on campus class (we were online). She refused to email us. I think I failed one, barely passed the 2nd one, and did well on the third. Then the ATI I had the highest level as many of our classmates did.

It happens. I was that way in patho. I feel like you can over study causing yourself to get anxious and not do as well on the test. You will find what works!!!

Thank you all for your comments. Of course I had to shed a few tears because nursing school can really break your spirit and make a person feel very incompetent at times. I am going to suck this one up and work even harder to make it.

I failed my first nursing exam my third semester also. Got a 72.5. Also studied the whole week. Which in my opinion is not enough! Since then I have made it a habit to study almost every minute of my spare time. (Although I still make time for family/friends and the occasional night out). This has pretty much guaranteed me a grade at LEAST 15 points above the class average. Studying only the week ahead of time is not going to do it. And nursing school is not about memorization- it is more about UNDERSTANDING. It's very hard to fully understand that much material in a week.

My goal now is to look over the material everyday from the time I get it. Hopefully this will help me.
