Indiana Last Name - W

I just got my e-mail!! They never did a credit check, but I got the finalist notification!! I'm a BSN student in Indiana -- I thought I had NO chance. Congratulations and good luck everyone!!

(How could I forget to say this? CONGRATS on your acceptance!!!) I'm currently in my first (official) semester in the BSN program at IU-NW. I chose IU Northwest because they have phenomenal NCLEX pass rates, and I know a lot of nurses who work in local hospitals. I asked for their opinions on the overall competency of nursing students and graduates from each school. I know that isn't completely reliable, but when I chose IUN, I felt pretty confident that based on NCLEX pass rates and the info garnered from nurses in the field -- I'd made the right choice. I'm not able to give much information about Valpo U, unfortunately. I have a few friends who have graduated from their program, and others who left for various reasons (didn't "fit in" to the economic cliques common to VU, didn't like the curriculum, etc). Overall they haven't seemed satisfied (though a few friends loved it!), but honestly, it comes down to the individual. PNC tends to run a research-based, paper-heavy program. People who love research and paper-writing love their program, etc etc. Either way, I wish you the best of luck. You have no idea how excited I was to see a local school (and my school!) in the topic of this thread.

In my BSN program, we (sophomores) met with a group of juniors today (sophomore officially 'begins' nursing classes/clinicals) to ask questions or whatnot. Pretty much all of them told us they failed their first NCLEX-style test. When I say all of them...I mean...all of them. Our first 'real' exam isn't until Monday, but I'm telling you -- the knowledge that these competent, progressing people failed their first exam makes me feel a little less crappy about my potential grade. So...to answer your question...not yet, but the possibility is high..and we'll suck it up and kick butt on the next one...then fast-forward to being awesome nurses HAKUNA MATATA BABY!

My BSN program begins Aug 26th, and they have expressed very adamantly that no late work will ever be accepted.

My dad always stressed how important it was to live in service of something greater than yourself. He passed away from testicular cancer when I was 10...I didn't understand what he meant until I was in the hospital at 20 weeks pregnant, in preterm labor. The nurses who cared for us became my rock throughout those awful few months, and I understood -exactly- what he meant. Now that's all I want to be...the kind of nurses they are, and the kind of parent he was. Hope you find your passion!

Congrats!! :) I'm there with you -- got done with pre-reqs and got my acceptance letter in May, and entering my BSN program in August!! Now that immunizations are in and CPR is handled, it's pretty much "hurry up and wait" for us, too. Best of luck!
