EMT school while doing nursing pre reqs?

Hello so I will be starting my next semester on January 8th! I also however wanted to take an EMT class so I could get as much as practice as possible before going into nursing school.

Next semester I will be taking

A&P 1

Intro to statistics

Gen Psychology

Medical Terminology

(I then wanted to take an EMT class which would be 8 hours a day on Saturday only) I would also be working my job for 6 hours on friday.

I was wondering if I someone could tell me if I should sign up for the EMT course or if i'm over doing it? I know A&P is SUPER important and I would like to get a B or above in that class.

Any advice would be great! :)

I think it's a great idea, as you will learn some very basic A&P with the EMT program, and you can apply what you know from one program to the other.

Besides, it's always a good thing to keep your head in the medical field and learning/using advanced first responder stuff is always a handy thing.

Yes, I say go for it. Honestly EMTB school is fairly easy, and fun!

As long as you know you can handle it then do it. Also EMS is a great job if you want to work while you are in nursing school. It provides some downtime to allow for studying, of course this depends on how busy your system is.

I have been in EMS for 19 years (way before I did nursing) and have loved it!

I took it as an elective in my last semester of BSN school. I loved it!!! It was a bit easier and kinda fun and a great way to learn different assessment skills and critical thinking. I took the tests and passed and got my NR-EMTB. Sad thing was that I never practiced as an EMT. To this day, 20+ years later, I still have some of the nemonics for assessments in the back of my head. That and I was awesome at CPR with all the practice we did in practicals and clinicals for that class.
