Congrats! :yeah:

MissB08, I will be at El Centro too. Do you know when the clinical assignments will be done, on the Nov 18th orientation? And where did you order the name badges, if you did?

What Clinical instructor/hospital options will we have for the first semester? May be current first semester students can provide some information.

Thanks.

We will probably get the clinical sites during orientation on 18th. I havent ordered my name badge yet but am looking at this site (my name bages.com) untill i come up with something! Am thinking the instructors may vary per semester and sometimes so do the hospitals. Have to wait and see!!

Actually, the name badge is the one thing that stays the same for every semester. If the hospital issues you one, then you wear it in addition to the blue pin on badge...

And some good news for you guys (maybe). I heard through an ECC/NLC faculty that they may be lowering the passing grade to a 75 from the 78 it has been for a loooonnnngggg time. You have no idea how many people we've lost that fell in those 3 little points. Keep your fingers crossed!

That would be great! I hope they implement it! I hate that for three points your out....I mean really peoples! Even the BSN programs aren't that rigid.

I have a question for you all. When do we start looking into internships...I hear they fill up fast. How do you get information on them?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am psyched about moving on to fourth, although I still have Psych test and the final to go....

I am at Baylor Dallas and this past March they had a job fair that I went to. You just talk to the hiring managers and they will call you for the second interview. I went for the second interview in April and was given a job offer at that time. The internship started June 3rd. You also can go to Baylor's website and apply for internships.

Also, at El Centro they had some of the employees at different hospitals come and talk to us. They would tell us when their job fairs are and to please come. To me it is worth going and meeting the possible managers at whatever hospital you are wanting to work at. I think we saw Baylor and UT Southwestern back in Spring 2008 at El Centro. They bring lunch to you also!

Congrats on almost finishing 3rd semester! Just stay focused and you will make it!

Specializes in Operating Room.

Start applying at the beginning of your 4th semester, if you don't plan on staying where you are doing an externship. (Of course in that case, you need to ask your hospital.) :)

Hey Spill! I began searching the hospital's websites towards the end of September and had my first interview in early October. They do fill up fast, and what's left over is mostly med-surg it seems. I'd begin looking online almost as soon as 4th semester starts, or if you know where you want to be, definitely call HR and ask for the nurse recruiter and ask them when they will begin scheduling interview for the June internships. Hang in there! You're getting close!

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Hey Spill ... like they said! The spots do seem to fill up fast. Most of the hospitals seemed to be posting jobs within the first few weeks of the semester starting.

A few different hospitals came out to El Centro this semester. It seemed like every week in which we didn't have a test, some hospital was out feeding us lunch! It's nice to hear the pitch, but the career fairs seemed like a better source of information. Honestly, the best part about the hospitals coming out is the free lunch and the ability to easily compare pay/benefits between the different systems.

We'll all be rooting for you :)

Specializes in Operating Room.

Not only had I interviewed (in person on one, phone on two), but I had already accepted a position in one month's time after starting 4th semester.
