Do you really need a laptop for nursing school?

I am in need of a new laptop. Howevet, the nursing program that I am starting has a library were I can use their computers for assignments. With that said should a nursing student have their own laptop? Which laptop brand would you recommend ?

I have a laptop for class and almost never use it during class. I like that it's portable so that you can work on papers next to everywhere, but when it came to notes and stuff hand wrote stuff down. Having to think to write the words sealed stuff better in my brain cells :D

At my school, we are not allowed to use electronics during lectures. They had problem with people recording the lectures and posting them on the internet. With that said, I think it is totally possible to thrive without a laptop. I think it would be easier to absorb the notes if you actually read them vs typed them, and as long as you have access to computers, I see no need for a laptop.

I would say yes,, two if you can afford it....

there will be projects that you end up not doing and remembering the night before class and crap like that...

also, get you a printer that is NOT color and uses toner instead of ink,, because i guarantee you that you will need an emergency print out on a sunday night and your printer will be out of ink because it's dry from not using it much..

for sure get you a good flash drive that has a cap that you can set in front of you while on the school computer,, I see alot of student running off and forgetting them in the pc.

get you two voice recorders also,, so you can keep different classes separated better.

I won't have a laptop, I have a desktop at home. I also have an iPad. I've never really needed it though. I take notes by hand and then put it into quizlet on my iPad. I write papers at home and save it on a flash drive and either print at home or school if I'm out of ink at home. I've never needed one in class though.

So interesting to read everyone's posts on their thoughts! Our school REQUIRES laptops. All of our testing is online, we have to log in to secure sites and do our testing while the prof sits in back and watches, we can't leave the screen so it is hard to cheat. All of our assignments are online, we have forums that we have to post to. I could not imagine taking paper tests again! The format is so much simpler and our power points are all online.

I would however find the best way for yourself to take notes. Personally I do better when I use my tablet and take notes right on the powerpoint instead of typing them. I don't like to waste paper with printing them out when I have access all the time on my tablet.

I have a MacBook Pro and LOVE it so much!

It is not required for us to have a laptop in my program, but I could not be without one. I always have it for study groups, or studying away from home and it has made everything so much easier.. I have a hp. It was a gift, so I didn't personally compare brands etc. It has been a big adjustment getting use to it because I have always had Macs and my home computer is a Mac.

A chromebook might be a good choice for you. This would probably be the cheapest and best option for somebody in your situation
