After what semester of NS can you get certified as a CNA...as my clinical hours get longer I'm considering going to work as a nursing assistant. I don't think I'll be able to work enough hours at my retail job to keep my benefits. Please advise. Thanks.

here is the answer and your state law that pertains to your question:
http://www.dph.state.ct.us/bhcs/nurse_aide_training/home.htm - website for the connecticut nurse aid registry. you will see links at the left side of the page. if you scroll down the page to the section on "requirements for certification" you will find this: "a student enrolled in a lpn or rn program may request to challenge the test by providing original transcripts of their education verifying they have completed the basic nursing fundamentals and skills that are covered in a nurse aide training program."

Well, I am not sure about the hospitals in your area, but I just finished my first year and i went on the local HC " sentara" website and there were alot of jobs in the hospital for nursing students who have finished their first clinical. I just got a job as a Nursing care partner in the ICU( which is just like a CNA without the title). SO you should take a look at your areas HCP website and see whats available!

In my area once you finish Fundamentals you can work as a Tech, which pays better than CNA. There is no exam or course.

In our area, once you have finished your first semester, they are VERY interested in hiring nursing students...it's either that or complete some type of 4-week training that the hospital requires for techs/CNAs.
Good luck!!
