Is Chem really a necessary prereq for Anatomy?

I was wondering if chemistry really should be taken before anantomy? I'm kind of in a rush to finish my prerequisites and taking them together would save me one semester but it's strongly suggested that I take chem first then anatomy. What do you think?

I'm sure that taking A&P before Chem is very doable if you want to put in the extra work.

I found taking chem before A&P to be very beneficial. My instructor kind of skipped over a lot of the chem content, but tested on it as he assumed it was content we were already familiar with.

Wow. That's amazing to me that some have to take Chem before they can take A & P. My school doesn't require that, thank goodness. That would be just one extra class on top of the load I already have. lol

I took Physiology last semester, and now I'm having to backtrack and take Anatomy. My university split it up into two different classes. I don't know why they just didn't leave it together. Has anyone else's split it up that way?

Yes, ours is two seperate classes. I actually liked it that way, but I don't know how you did it taking Phys before Anatomy. That would make it a little tougher.

Thank you all for your responses they've helped a lot. I will be taking chem first because I really need to do very well on all of my classes and being that I have 4 kids I can't afford to overload myself. It was work just to get everyone to do their homework, bathe, and get to sleep at a decent hour last night.Thanks...:D

Most schools discourage taking more than 1 lab a semester but that's silly for us going into the healthcare field that have many lab classes to take.

I took Micro and Anatomy in the same semester and did fine! (And worked a full time job) - You'll do fine : )

thank God that someone is working fulltime (a non-mom or anything) that is doing pre-req/NS while working

i read like alot of posts from people who dont work (again moms dont count) while in school and like i would like to find people who are around my age that have to work fulltime or close to fulltime (actually NEED to work) that are doing NS too.

i am and i work a job that is only M-F and so when i start to do clinicals i dont know what i am going to do... i need the money for bills and stuff but i need the classes too...

oh what to do!?!

I am in my ADN program right now, and the science prereqs were only A&P 1 and A&P 2 (and Micro, but it wasnt a prereq to get in). Ironically, you only needed chemistry in highschool (which i did poorly in...) but that was fine. When I go to get my bachelors, I am going to have to take Chem anyway!....Ha, so either way, I still have to take it. But i did just fine in A&P without a strong knowledge of chemistry.. Although, if you're like me, you will prob need it down the road anyway-- Might as well get it over with, right?:D

Once you finish your first semester in NS some hospitals let you work for them that way you can earn money and learn more about the field. Just have faith and persevere cause it will all pay in the end.

i know

its just that it must be nice for others that are my age that dont have to work because their parents do everything for them and i am pretty much on my own as far as work and school.

its kind of fustrating but in the end i know that i have better work ethic and can handle alot of responsibility

Well, when I took Physiology before Anatomy, I already had a very basic understanding of the body, because I'm an EMT. I made an A in Physiology, and it seems like I'm doing even better this semester in Anatomy, because I know how the parts work. That's just how my mind is, I guess. lol Because I know how the stuff works, I can see it in my head so much better. I think I would have found it harder to take Anatomy before Physiology, so I'm glad I had to do it this way. Thank you! :)
