...based on commute distance when considering applicants for their programs?

I live in a rural area. There are significant benefits to my living in this area. Two of which are free part time childcare (my mom lives nearby) and a low cost of living. I contacted the offices of a nearby university to inquire about their BSN program and was told that my application may not be accepted because I would have a 45 minute commute from my home to the university. I currently work in the same city where the university is located and I have never called in, never missed a scheduled day of work. Should I maybe include with my application, a letter from my employer that attests to my attendance?

That they would say that just struck me as odd.

That is crazy!!! I life 40 minutes away from the college that I am attending and I am starting the nursing program this fall! That is a choice that you are making to commute to school. I wouldn't think that they could withhold an education from you like that. CRAZY!!!!

I dont see how your address should make a difference at all. I have had friends apply to nursing schools across the country. In my class there is a girls that has more than an hour drive. Plus our clinicals are all over our metro area and I had more than a 45 min drive to my 6am clinicals.

Should not matter where you live, if you are willing to make the sacrifice to get to school it should matter to them where you live just as long as you get there.

Who did you speak to at the school, could it have been somone who may not be familiar with the nursing application, I would inquire further, just donst seem right

I know ours gave you 3 more points from being in area that it serves but the community college is everywhere in Indiana, but it usually does not matter if you commute. We have been scheduled all over the city and I am on the opposite side of the city and it takes me almost 30 minutes to get there. It seems a silly reason to exclude you.
