Okay, you know who you are. I'm looking for any advice you all might have for relaxing a little. I scored an 8 out of 10 yesterday on a quiz, and I've been stressing over it ever since. At this rate I'm going to have an ulcer before I even get into the actual program.
Any of you still doing pre reqs that are the same way? I just keep hearing how difficult it is to get accepted, and I keep putting more and more pressure on myself to get a 4.0.
Anyone else get embarassed by the thought of being "average"? I really think I need to mellow out. I've always been like this, though, got a 2.0 in a highschool algebra class (I was a 3.8 student at the time) I flipped out and dropped out of school at 16. Now, 8 years later, I finally have the confidence to go back to school, and currently have a 3.9. I'm worried that any dissapointent in my grades will lead me to leave school again.
Thanks for listening. It feels a lot better just to vent.

Shoot for the 4.0 if you must (I do).
Once the test is over, learn as much as you can from it and try to move on (whether you aced it or scored less). I know, I know, I know ... easy to say.

HOw can you learn if you are stressing yourself out so much? Everyone is concerned with getting great grades but you shouldn't flip out over it.
Think of it this way.. in a few years (or whenever you are a RN) do you think the patient that you are taking care of is going to ask you what you got on that test?
That's how I get through. Be grateful that you passed. You did the best you could!!!!

Do your best and stop stressing. And DON"T drop out. But I must admit that I'm just the same. I expect so much from myself and am dissappointed by any errors. I'm hoping that will make me a better nurse. Only time will tell. But dropping out won't get those points back, it'll only take you longer to achieve your goal!

Someone shared a really good thinking point with me on this subject and I will share it here too.
What do you call a nurse who gets C's (or B's) in nursing school ?
a nurse
I know how hard it can be to not stress over grades but try to relax and keep your final goal in mind, however you get there, whether it be C's, B's, or all A's.

I agree. Shoot for a 4.0...but if you don't get it, don't beat yourself up over it. Do the best you can. When you miss questions on tests/assignments/etc...learn from them and move on. It's good to do your very best, you tend to learn more that way...but grades are not the end-all of nursing school as long as you stay within their parameters.
Thanks everyone :) and no, I won't drop out over 2 points. :)
I'm sure I'll relax once I'm in the actual program.

I don't have any helpful advice, but I can relate. I'm completely anal about my grades. I'd rather withdraw from a course than get a B. I really beat myself up about it... I'm hoping that once I get into school full-time and don't also have to work and take care of two kids by myself that I'll have more time to devote to studying and not have to worry about it so much. I guess that's my main worry right now - that my grades will slip because I don't have enough time to devote to my studies.

Die try'in, I hate to say it but you will not relax once you get
in the program.. anyway, someone told me this little saying
that I chanted to myself when I stressed over grades:
C=RN. Once you graduate, individual grades don't matter,
your degree does not have a GPA on it! Deep breaths and
remember, C=RN, C=RN, ...you'll do great....:)
C may = RN, but the only problem with that philosophy is if you plan on going to grad school eventually, grades DO matter.
that's true manna, I always strived for A's but the saying is
to help relax when that doesn't happen. Thats what I thought
dietry'n was looking for...not another reason to stress, sorry
if I was misunderstood.

My school you have to maintain at least a C+ to get into the nursing program.English is my worse subject and I just got a B in it.I will settle for a C if that is the best I can do,but if I do the best I can do always,I doubt I'll ever get a C.
