Best backpack? Not rolling!

I know there are a million threads about this but everyone mentions rollig backpacks. I need a backpack that is okay on your back with lots of books but that is not rolling. I'm only converting over from carrying totes (I think backpacks are ugly). Can't make the complete switch to a rollig one. I know that's vain but surely there are others like me who prefer the non-rolling kind. What's your favorite?

Sorry but rolling is best if you are concerned for your back. The amount of books needed in a nursing program IS NOT going to be a light load unless you have a tablet and download your textbooks on that.

Thanks for your concern, but I would only be taking my books with me to the library or a coffee shop so it would be a ten minute walk tops. Plus it wouldn't be all my books. Probably just one or two books and a binder. I'm surely not the only person who doesn't want a rolling backpack...

True, there may be more people not WANTING a roller bag but I have yet to find a student without one. I've even seen suitcases used.

I use one from Sandpiper of California called a bug out bag. It's really designed for military use, but after I kept borrowing my husband's when he was home, I went and got my own. One of the things I like the best is that the inside has this lining on it that helps keep moisture out. It's definitely a large bag, but that works for me on my long days where I need materials for multiple classes, lunch and snacks, laptop, and a sweatshirt for those cranked AC rooms.

You're not the only one! I rebelled against rolling backpacks for a couple years, my trusty jansport held up really well. My rebellion ended when I got my fundamentals textbook (HUGE) and I ordered the jansport driver 8 rolling backpack. Of course, I have a huge break beytween some of my classes so I plan on carrying alot of books with me so I can study during breaks. Plus, my jansport driver 8 is a pretty torquoise plaid color, so it's still cool, even if it has wheels.

I'm not a fan of rolling backpacks either. Luckily, my two main lectures are on Monday, so that will be the most I'll have to carry during the week. I have the Vera tote, by Vera Bradley. I have a humongous VB tote as well (Get Carried Away) that I can't imagine needing to use, but you never know. I guess it all depends on preference and the total of classes in a given day, thankfully this semester the most I have is the two on Monday, and other days are a lecture and lab, or clinical and lab. *shrugs*

Good luck finding something suitable to your preference! :-)

I've never been into rolling backpacks either and totes tend to hurt my shoulder after a while. However, I love my Dakine backpack - it's really sturdy, has nice wide padded straps, and holds everything I need including a laptop (I got the larger 33 liter men's size for the extra room). They're a little pricey (I got the "Campus" pack for around $60) but after almost 2 years it still looks almost new, no signs of wear and tear at all.

Not a fan of the rolling backpacks. My Columbia backpack is perfect to me, sturdy and made of good material. Since it is back to school time consider checking on Ebay, they often have tons of choices for cheaper than store price.

Not a fan of roller packs either. I highly recommend SwissGear backpack because they're vergy comfortable . I use one that fits my 15 inch laptop. A bit on the pricier end but worth it. Can fit 2 to 3 books if i put my laptop in a laptop bag

Adidas backpacks are awesome! I had one that I used through my high school years and pre-reqs and it held up great! I had probably about 4 years out of it. I just bought a new one for nursing school and I can't wait to use it. They have huge compartments and are able to hold tons. I used to carpool with my brother to school so I had to have all of my books plus my lunch with me and my Adidas backpack was able to hold it all. I definitely recommend it!

I graduate Nursing School in December, and I am happy to say that I have never owned (nor will I own) a rolling backpack. I use a Jansport that I purchased at my school bookstore. I just looked for one with padded shoulder straps, reinforced corners and a pocket for my laptop. I would suggest investing a little money in this purchase because it is so important, but I have never paid more than $50.

Good luck!
