Have you ever felt this way, and at the end you actually got accepted somewhere? Im looking at 5 universities im going to apply for and maybe 3 community colleges, even though im currently attending a CSU. im almost done with my pre reqs. but when im getting closer to apply i feel very discouraged almost like its unrealistic to gett accepted anywhere because any school for nursing is so competitive, and hard to get into. My first semester in college i got all staright A's and comming to the end of this semester im looking at staright A's as well, im a freshman, im always ahead doing research of colleges, already been studying for my tease test etc. Academically im good standing. but i dont know why i put my self down alot. have you ever felt this way and at the end you suprised your self and got accepted somewhere?

::taps toe on floor:: Look here. You have two semesters of straight As and are in "good academic standing" (I'll bet you are) and you think you aren't good enough to get into a nursing program? Well, what are you going to have to do to convince yourself? Break into the local physiology lab and invent the cure for cancer this weekend?

This isn't a nursing school problem, this is (I loathe these trendy words, but there it is) a self-esteem problem, a personal problem.

If you don't know why you put yourself down a lot (two words, BTW), then you need to find out. Get that resolved before you start an intensive nursing program. Go to your college health service and ask for a referral to a counselor for some short-term help. They've seen it before and they know just what to do. This will not get better without that, and a quick fix now will save you a lot of time later.

Getting accepted is the easy part. Nursing school is a long process and all throughout you will have a roller coaster of emotions. There will be things that build you up and things that tear you down. It's about making a commitment to becoming a nurse and sticking with it. If you're already getting A's then you're clearly smart, just take it one class at a time and don't beat yourself up over every bump in the road.

Yes, I felt that way at one point. However, the passion and desire to become a nurse was more powerful than my fear of not becoming a nurse. Find that passion and let it be the fuel. Say you don't get accepted on the first attempt.. then try again! And again! Yes, schools are competitive but you know what? There are people just like you getting accepted all the time. Just do what you need to do to to get in and keep trying!!

I definitely needed to read this, I'm waiting to get a letter back, hopefully by the end of May. I definitely can't help but feel discouraged at times myself but I have to remind myself of my major goal of becoming an RN and how I know I will be a great nurse one day.
