I think that you need to read more before starting anything. And yes you can do it as a vegetarian, just make sure that you get enough protein from soy rpoducts, etc.

I am currently taking a Nutrition Course and my instructor is constantly putting Atkins down because SHE SAYS it is not a diet you can adhere to the rest of your life. That and she says you need at least 50 to 100 g of carbs for "protein sparing" in your diet. I told her I believe Atkins tells you 70 g carbs - the first 2 weeks. I did ask her once if she read the book. She mumbled her answer. She continues to put Atkins down in lectures. Not wanting to risk a bad grade, I just ignore the barbs.
Once again - READ THE BOOK. It is a great diet - but you must follow the directions. Good luck all!
Yeah, I got alot of people telling me how horrible this was, about 8 people told me it was a terrible diet,. all of them were nurses. I went out and did research on my own and found out the eact opposite. Many ppl in healthcare were opposed to this diet when it became popular, but research is out showing lowered cholesterol and weight loss with it, higher success rates. My word of advice, do your own research. Its a good diet.

here is the question: have any of you been on this diet? i hear so many different things about it. but the dr. is the one who pointed me is this direction.

i suggest you do something that will improve your health instead of causing damage to you .go total vegetarian instead.another name is vegan.
and do drink lots of water and try to regular walking too. you will feel healthy for it (lots) and you can stay on it for life and you will lose weight too.

if you have your doubts about this, just do some research on cjd and then decide if you think atkins is a good choice for a diet.
we have been total vegetarian for 20 years and have raised our children this way.not one of them (and we have 8) has to think about their weight and neither do i.and the children are all healthy too.

If you actually read and understand any of the basic physiology, you'll see the danger here. My Physio teacher, who has a PhD in physiology, also thinks Atkins is extremely dangerous.
But hell ... what do eight nurses, a PhD in physiology and the author of a standard Physio textbook (who also is an RN and PhD) know? Certainly you know better than they do.
It's not like these people make money by criticizing Atkins. Maybe they're health experts who are simply trying to prevent health problems.
But go ahead ... feel free to kill yourself. At least you've been warned.

Basically cut out sugar, whilte bread, white rice, and white pasta. You can eat vegetables, fruits, whole grain bread, etc.
We eat brown rice at my school every day, and my waist is smaller than I ever remember.
Read the book, as well as South Beach. Just pick what works for you.

I don't eat that much meat..............just leave out what I wrote above and you will lose pounds without even trying.
Saw an old friend today, before I started my new way of eating, and his mouth was dropping..................and I am definitely not starving...feel better than I have in a very long time, and a lot more energy.....that is how I can stay up on the computer so late.....
It is actually one of the healthier diets as it does not leave out any food group.

The headaches are from caffeine withdrawl. I had them too. Have you some Advil handy. From my experience, I had the headaches for 2-3 days and then I was okay.

5. loose hamburger, some type of sausage, pepperoni, and ?
Cook or brown all of the ingredients first. Put in a non-stock pan, I like frying pan size. Depending on how many that you are making, mix eggs with either sour cream or whipping cream and pour over the top. They will require baking for about 30 minutes (depends on pan size).
I always used real Swiss cheese over here, actually from Switzerland, and we do not have much of a choice of dairy products. With the cream, it tastes like a custard.
Jun 20, '04I went on Atkins a couple of years ago, was on it for 6 months and my cholesterol shot up to almost 300, I lost 30lbs though. When my Dr. told me to stop Atkins, I tried the slimfast plan. I couldn't believe how quickly I lost 60 lbs, I got cysts & kidney stones & had to stop that too. Then the weight quickly found its way back. Now I am going to try the American Diabetes Association's diet- it seems the most practical & I hope this one works for me. Luckily, I only have 40 more to lose.
Everyone's body is different, so every diet won't work for everybody.
